They can not sell anything turnkey0
    High cost of sales.
    Slow to innovate and invest
Veteran staff should have been let go a long time ago
The CEO is not a technologist. He uses a car service while cutting the traveling sales teams cell phone reimbursement. NOTE- they don't pay for internet for remote workers either.
    No WiFi on plane reimbursement.
Withhold paying expenses that employees have to front for the company for two weeks.
Needed to eliminate the old guard long ago.
    NO API's.
    NO Azure, Google Cloud offering.
AWS offering first round was not self managed and not adopted by customers.
Pricing is not what customers expect. Losing deals due to pricing.
The perks are just programs and not genuine.
    Will not take risks
Fear driven manager I report into. Has limited experience outside of company.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Zero zip zilch nada. Used to be great, but then an incompetent CEO was appointed and in turn hired a crew of sycophants who are afraid to tell him "No".

    Cons

Every possible mistake a company can make, this one has. Outsourcing, off-shoring, large bonuses to mgmt, 2% max raises for non-mgmt.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company, you've run it into the ground.

"A once good recovery program is now an embarrassment"

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people, the people, the people. The team executing recovery is a great pool of talented and dedicated individuals. A layoff per quarter in one year is extreme, that's where it's headed. Can you say happy holidays?

    Cons

The people pushing the automated recovery tool has killed the program. They're right about one thing, it's not the tool, it's the people pushing the tool. They poured so much into this tool, they neglected the people executing. It used to be a great place to work because of the people, but the cuts have taken it's toll and those left are pushed to burn out with no consideration to their well being.

    Advice to Management

It's time to cut your losses now and save the program by investing on the people instead of the tool.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

No pros at this point in the company unless you're in Costa Rica or India. US people looking at jobs should know the org is crumbling from the top. More layoff's are scheduled for August 2017. More US work going off-shore.

    Cons

Upper management is leaving in droves. 4 upper management individuals (3 VPs and a C-Suite) are leaving the company in the next two months.

    Advice to Management

    Just fire everyone and sell.

I worked at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dedicated co-workers despite being in a company that is so financially unstable.
    Company does support remote work.

    Cons

First, let me just say, I'm lucky to get out and have found a better company. But at Sungard, the dear leader and his cronies have failed miserably to turn the company around. Consistent dismal revenue, slow release of new products, poorly designed new products, while unable to compete in the saturated cloud market are all dragging the company down to the scrap heap. In addition, morale is low. There's also no career advancement. The company also has high turn-over, there's persistent layoffs to cut costs to make the accounting books look good. The company continuously moves jobs to India and Costa Rica, leading to low quality work and dissatisfied customers. The San Ramon California building is up for sale. Other facilities have been sold. The pattern is clear: move as much of product development out of the USA.

    Advice to Management

It's time to put the whole thing to rest. The remaining employees live in fear for their jobs each day and are looking to get out. In the meantime, you've proven quite well that you have no idea how to make this company profitable. Bringing in less-than-brilliant executives who don't deliver positive results is a joke. It's over. Just turn off the lights and shut the doors.
