    Cons

Management has unrealistic expectations. Crazy requests at all hours of the night with no work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Plan ahead, be proactive instead of reactive. Respect your employees' personal lives.

I worked at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salary, not great but solid. Benefits are industry average. Good place to start a career, but if you want to be recognized for your talent transfer to another company your you could end up wasting your best years on the end of the vine if you are not your superiors best buddy.

    Cons

High school like gossip. Internal departmental cut throats for promotions and survival. Lack of direction by mgmt and too much hand holding that your job is safe when in reality you see one colleague after another get the ax in I'll advised cost cutting in the wrong areas.

    Advice to Management

Act like professionals where the best people get promoted and not the ones that smile at you but snipe at everyone else. I was told we were a "sungard family" when 911 happened, but when I needed my sungard family for my own minor crisis, which was a non work and non performance related issue I was given the boot as if I had the modern day plague and used as an example for someone's personal agenda. Today, I have rebounded and own a successful start up with 50 employees that are treated equally and fairly. So my advice is to my former sungard brothers and sisters is this. Be there for one another in reality when it counts for each other and not just when in matters to sungard. Good luck to you all.

    Pros

pay is decent but no bonuses.

    Cons

Company management doesn't promote women. Male dominated company that puts up a mirage of woman advancements when they do not exist in reality only in title changes. When asked if there would be additional layoffs CEO lied and answered no in Nov 2016 when he knew that mass layoffs were planned. Very little integrity.

    Advice to Management

Start listening to your customers before you lose the rest of them.

    Pros

Salary is good and is up to market standards

    Cons

Company has no niche in the industry, no idea where it is going. Senior management just care about KPIs. Company is pushing to hire more offshore resources, and from the looks of it, layoff US workers.

Some great people. Good benefits but cost increasing. OK but not what is use to be

    Cons

Management and some personnel are not friendly. Lack of communications is a major flaw. They hold All Hands brain washing sessions but the lower level employees are seldom heard.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to be a manager

    Pros

Benefits were ok, but not much more is a pro.......

    Cons

Sungard brought on an entire team to replace what they had for their BC/DR software. That team was ignorant, late to the game, and blind. You should use the resources you have available in order to have made an exceptional system.

Management of the team was more about their own agenda. Learn your industry. Listen to your customers, not just one that won't even go with your product!!

    Advice to Management

Bring in new people. The software division is a COMPLETE failure!!

    Pros

Technical depth and people who care about customer results
    Long history in BCDR

    Cons

Leadership inattentive to markets and employees
Chasing yesterdays market of custom solutions; not the future of interoperable cloud
Take on deals they can't deliver on with guaranteed losses for length of contract

    Advice to Management

Go talk to typical customers and dial back how much you listen to consultants (inside and out)

I worked at Sungard Availability Services (More than a year)

    Pros

An established service provider in the cloud space (pre-21st century).
    Strong presence in Fortune 500.
    Invested in strategic alliances.
    Good cash position.

    Cons

Difficulty moving beyond core business of Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS).
Pre-21st century legacy is a double-edged sword (past failures and long memories to overcome).
Reference selling difficult because of confidential nature of DRaaS.

    Advice to Management

The conflict between Operations (pricing) and customer acquisition/retention (Sales) is well-known within the company. Reshape Operations compensation so as to reward flexibility in pricing and remove disincentives to win deals.

    Pros

Work from home, no accountability, and again, working from home , always junk food around- it seemed that was a management way of compensation

    Cons

This place is dying. Management is untalented and inexperienced. The real talent has left long ago. management is just trying to line pockets before the ship sinks. Lacks ability to compete- no vision, no talent, no means or desire from at best mediocre management to bring in folks with real capabilities.

    Advice to Management

Stop communicating things and outlook for company will change- they aren't and they won't - at least not under your tenure

    Pros

Communication channels from leadership has drastically improved within the past six months.

Extremely knowledgeable coworkers posing an multifaceted number of skills and abilities.

Great career experience builder for those coming out of college. Certainly not a destination to be at for more than several years. Build experience than seek other opportunities.

    Cons

Constant fear among coworkers/managers expressing concerns about outsourcing and constant rumors of a sell off or take over...

Outsourcing and layoffs and other means of cost savings are embedded into the company's culture. This puts a tight strain on the employee morale!!

    Unknown of direction of company.
