    Advice to Management

listen to your employers a little better, learn to change without removing headcount.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice co-workers, decent benefits and nice working environment/facility.

    Cons

No ability to work from home, even if it is only one day a week. Management always changing and layoffs always looming in the future. Morale is bad.

    Advice to Management

Be open to employee advice/ideas since we are the ones working in the trenches.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are great. Management is generally very good. You have opportunities to continue education. Growth opportunities exist for those willing to change job roles from time to time.

    Cons

Taking time off is often problematic as staffing is too thin to provide coverage while you're out. Tasks either don't get done while you're out or you get called while on "vacation" to handle critical items.

Tools are often deployed before they're mature and this leads to loss of productivity.

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to what's going on in the trenches. Many of the challenges we're seeing regarding revenue and costs are direct results of decisions impacting people at the bottom. Do more skip level meetings to cut through the filters.

I worked at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Management believes that disaster recovery is not the future so they are using their amazing and bullet-proof data centers to deliver cloud and production services. They are changing the tires whilst driving at 100 miles an hour.

    Cons

They are caught between a rock and a hard place. Disaster recovery services are growing - for other providers as ex-Sungard AS customers move to them en masse. And the cloud services field is already saturated by the likes of Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. They also turn over their entire marketing staff annually without getting any fresh ideas from the newcomers.

Some long term employees are afraid to share their knowledge because that might put them on the chopping block.

    Advice to Management

Selling off data centers might be good to meet annual numbers, but it doesn't seem to be a good long-term strategy.

    Pros

New Management is looking for efficiencies, improvements, savings

    Cons

Unfortunately the drive for efficiencies keeps meaning re-orgs and cuts. Every year there are a few and just about every 2 years is a large re-org.

I worked at Sungard Availability Services (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, good working environment, good salary and benefits

    Cons

Seems like there is a lack of vision and coordination. Their recent reduction-in-force shows that they feel that there are a number of places that were cost centers which were not generating revenue, and one wonder why those resources were not redirected sooner.

    Advice to Management

Develop a clear plan for how the company intends to succeed or allow the company to die.

    Pros

Sungard is working very hard to become the employer of choice. They offer may great programs for employees to participate in. Additionally they offer may avenues for the employee to voice areas for improvement.

    Cons

Sungard is a dinosaur buried in old and unneeded process that slows the workflows down. Being a extremely siloed business they do not look at work flows from end to end rather the look border to border.

    Advice to Management

remove the old guard and start fresh. Just because someone has been doing the job for years means its right.
