I have been working at Sunglass Hut (More than a year)

    Pros

Great training program. Huge, recognizable company

    Cons

Technically, you earn commission but it is so very little

    Advice to Management

With such a high product markup, you can afford to give your employees better commission

I worked at Sunglass Hut full-time

    Pros

    Room for growth
    Good discount

    Cons

For a "luxury goods store" they don't pay very well
    Poor upper management
Enjoyed my job more as a part-time associate than in management.

    Advice to Management

Enforce the policies! I don't know how many times I got screwed over with angry customers because I followed the policies and another store didn't so the customer expects me to bend the rules for them, too.

I worked at Sunglass Hut part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Extremely flexible work schedule
-Great way to build entry-level sales/customer service skills
-If you're good at the job, you'll be recommended to move up into higher positions

    Cons

-Low commission on products that make ridiculous profit
-Not enough hours to give (they work you the minimum so that they don't have to pay health care)
-Often work alone (one person per shift)
-Harsh holiday hours (especially if you work inside of Macy's)
-Standing for entire shift with not much to do but polish glasses (want you to be actively inviting people into the store)

    Advice to Management

    -Allow for more hours
-Give more incentives for meeting sales goals

I worked at Sunglass Hut part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sunglass Hut provides great training techniques that I have drawn on to find success in later positions. The work environment can be fun, rewarding and fast-paced - although much of this depends on the location and store manager. There is opportunity to advance into management positions if so desired.

    Cons

Commission is complexly configured; and even as a top salesperson at one of the highest grossing location in California, my paychecks barely covered the cost of gas to transport to and from work. Sunglass Hut has high turnover rates for this reason, and is not necessarily a sustainable job (especially since most positions for sales consultants are part-time). Additionally, the high turnover rate seemed to also apply to the managers, as I had 4 different managers within 8 months. Three were fantastic, but for the one manager that was poor: all scheduled hours were left to her discretion, and most of the time she elected to schedule most hours for herself in order to garner more commission for herself. However, this manager treated customers poorly so often that she was even written up on Yelp etc. - so this case might be an outlier for Sunglass Hut.

    Advice to Management

Overall, the training is what grants this job its worth - not the commission.
