    Pros

The residents are really fun to be around (for the most part)
Coworkers have tight-knit relationships with one another
Dining will give you free meals if they have extra food

    Cons

    Communication between Concierge/Nurse/Caregivers needs improvement
Pay is industry average - No true competitive nature

    Advice to Management

Establish an Internship program to pipeline talented candidates
Hire for RN positions internally by providing generous tuition reimbursement
Challenge your employees by allowing them to set their own annual goals

  5. "Overall good. But upper management is horrible"

    StarStarStarStarStar

    Pros

Most of the workers love their job so their willing to help.

    Cons

Always short staffed. The sunrise I worked at (Wheaton IL) would over work you. You’d work overnights 5 mins before it’s time to go they want you to stay. I worked over a year on a unit alone because of “budgets”. They never hired anybody to help me on the floor with 15 plus residents with dementia. Upper management doesn’t care when you have personal problems going on. And my vacation request always got denied or I had to find my own coverage but others got to go to Vegas etc. they treat the overnight workers like crap. Provide Christmas gifts and food to all shifts but nights. I can go on and on.

    Advice to Management

Put yourself in the workers shoes. Especially overnight team. They are the most worked and least appreciated. Oh and maybe things would be better if the company hired coordinators whom know the job. In the time I worked their, Ive had 3 coordinations and only 1 was any good. The current coordinator has the activity supervisor doing the schedules. The coordinator cuts hours for no real reason or over schedules you or ever changes your days and doesn’t say anything most of the team has set schedules. Also I was sexually harassed in sunrise senior living they fired the harasser but never changed the builds lock codes. So unprofessional

I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    I love working with seniors.

    Cons

This is the most hostile working environment I have ever experienced.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be more engaged with the employees. I did not make to my 90 trial period, b/c Of the hostile working environment. Within the first month, I experienced verbal attacks that ended with a finger being in my face. One of my coworkers, would lean on the counter once their work was finished and watch me work to set up for the next dining service. This person never asked if I needed help, even though I ask this person if I could help with their work. I caught no less than 2 management employees lying to me on different occasions. I was assigned so many duties, it was difficult to complete them in an 8 hour day. One of my duties was to wash the table linens, and many times my laundry was sabotaged by care managers.

I submitted my resignation letter b/c I saw no end to this treatment.

I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time

    Pros

The direct staff are wonderful and so caring.

    Cons

Very cliquey management. If you don't partake in the gossip they will get rid of you. Management looks for ways to start problems amongst staff. Not enough activities for the residents.

    Advice to Management

Rethink who is put in management positions.
