I have been working at Sunrise Senior Living part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sweet residents and staff can work great as a team sometimes. You feel more fulfilled than other low paying jobs out there I guess.

    Cons

I believe that this job can be very demanding, constant understaffing, always called in, I feel underpaid and under appreciated at times. If the supervisor is bad at scheduling it makes the job quite stressful. You barely make above min wage.

    Advice to Management

Stop being cheap and hire a few more care managers for a shift. Each day there are activities we are supposed to do with the residents and we do try, but sometimes we are running around like crazy just trying to do ADLs (mostly continence care and feeding) that there isn't even time to have meaningful interaction with residents. Frequently reassess the levels of care in the facility for staffing and make sure you have enough staff per shift. Also, respect when a CM has a day off. Always calling on days off is stressful I shouldn't have to feel incredibly guilty for wanting to enjoy a day off. Again, if more care managers were available understaffing wouldn't be an every day issue. It would be less stressful for care managers, supervisors and most importantly the residents.

I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The residents are the #1 reason we are all there. You learn a lot on this field of work, skill sets you will carry on into your own personally and professional life. The company does have a hotline you can call if you ever have any troubles.

    Cons

Staffing is the biggest issue, people quit and leave the rest to figure out how to do it alone. Management at least in my location i believe tried their best but they can have the favoritism card in their hands. lots of times people got written up for something then not long later they let it slide with someone else. no consistency with management, high turn over with coordinators. In the few years i worked there i had been managed by 5 diffrent coordinators each one bringing in their own ideas changing the routines and schedules then leaving, eventually care managers just didn't believe then anymore. I think it caused some sort of rebellion.

    Advice to Management

Hire smart, the care stick around because they care so much. They just have trust issues now because of the management that has been assigned to guide them and encourage them.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who will be able to have the building staffed and the schedule running smoothly.
