I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The residents are the #1 reason we are all there. You learn a lot on this field of work, skill sets you will carry on into your own personally and professional life. The company does have a hotline you can call if you ever have any troubles.

    Cons

Staffing is the biggest issue, people quit and leave the rest to figure out how to do it alone. Management at least in my location i believe tried their best but they can have the favoritism card in their hands. lots of times people got written up for something then not long later they let it slide with someone else. no consistency with management, high turn over with coordinators. In the few years i worked there i had been managed by 5 diffrent coordinators each one bringing in their own ideas changing the routines and schedules then leaving, eventually care managers just didn't believe then anymore. I think it caused some sort of rebellion.

    Advice to Management

Hire smart, the care stick around because they care so much. They just have trust issues now because of the management that has been assigned to guide them and encourage them.

I worked at Sunrise Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Paid vacation when work full time
    And sick hours

    Cons

Management is mess. It's like going to high school. The employees are clique-y only help people they like . Can get in trouble for little things when they really mad at something else.
Not enough workers for all the help the people you need to take care of. There's never enough workers because everyone quits or calls off (because Almost Everyone hates working there )

Do yourself favor and work somewhere else

    Advice to Management

    Stop hiring just anyone

Treat workers better so they will want to work.

    Stop having favoritism with workers

Don't put a cap on how much we can get on annual raise! That's not fair !

Stop bringing in people who need a lot of care and are not mentally fit for the building! How we take care of everyone well when so many people require 1 on 1 care givers or 24/7 caregivers. Understaffed and overworked

Stop being hypocrites and blaming workers when things go wrong.

Stop expecting workers to give up their lives for job. The managers are supposed to help out physically caring for them too (covering shifts and covering breaks when we are very busy) but they don't want to and just get mad at caregivers when they don't or can't work extra.

    Pros

The Residents are awesome! Room for advancement. (If you wait 1-2 years)

    Cons

Extremely high turnover rate for employees and residents, RC's are inexperienced and fail to keep supplys stocked, do not listen to residents or employees needs. Med techs pretty much run the place, They are never on time which makes it hard if you have school aged children and if they don't like you then they WILL get you fired! The CNA's complain day in and day out, Resident care suffers due to lack of quality training. Many more but not enough room or time to write them all.

    Cons

Management is pretty slack on attendance. Poor scheduling and a lot of conflicts.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who will be able to have the building staffed and the schedule running smoothly.

I have been working at Sunrise Senior Living part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

At Sunrise Palo Alto, No supervision, we are free to seek our own level of engagement. Some of us work, some play, management doesn't care, we're all in this together.

    Cons

At Sunrise Palo Alto, No supervision, poor wages. We work short staffed daily and tolerate it so we can participate; if we don't feel like coming to work we call in; management doesn't want the hassle and they do the same

    Advice to Management

At Sunrise Palo Alto residents receive horrible service, and very poor care. Management is there for the same reason as the rest of us, to get paid; therefore we all due the minimum amount to get through our day. For our residents, this place is horrible. Fortunate for us, most family members simply use us as a parking lot for their parents and never engage in their welfare.
