I worked at Sunrun full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work as hard as you want. Strong sales support. Good team environment. Fantastic product. Leads provided as long as you complete some internal exams. pre-set appointments.

    Cons

You have no control over certain things that can kill a deal. No matter how good of a sales person you are. You can go through the entire sales cycle and get the signature from the prospect to complete the deal and there will be things that you could not have know that will kill the deal.

Confusing paperwork process that will kill a sale based on information you could never have known.

Base salary is not even close to a living wage. That coupled with the fact that a deal can fall apart due to no fault of the sale person makes it an unpleasant and stressful situation.

    Advice to Management

    Revisit the base.

I worked at Sunrun full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to work in a dynamic industry
Best move I every made, was to LEAVE and get a real job with a smaller private company.

    Cons

One or the worst managed companies I have ever worked for! This company is like the "fast food" version of solar. If you work really hard, you may break 45K/year(pre-tax), which is below poverty rate in SF Bay Area. Sunrun will typically "require" you to drive for a couple hours for a 2 hour Costco.
It took me like 3 months to get my initial business cards because they are so unorganized.
When you close a deal, IF the project does not get cancelled (about 50% of the time!), you will have to wait until it gets installed on the roof, then until wait until the FOLLOWING pay period. They do this on purpose to avoid paying people.
Many of my projects were messed up (roof leaks, faulty equipment...etc) from operations.
Company gave me leads that were a 2-4 hour drive away from where I actually lived. That's like a 4 hour round trip driving time for a 1 hour appointment!
All they talk about is numbers, numbers and more numbers-its NEVER about the customers or employees.
Changed the comp system and now expect their sales employees to stand around Costco to drum up business and go door-to-door knocking! The market is so over saturated, people get angry when you knock on their door to sell them solar.
High level of micromanagement-there is little or no independence in the job.
This company is a revolving door, most employees only stay for a short period of time, so nobody really knows what is going on.
If you have a family or home life, you will never get to see them because you will be driving around in traffic all day long.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your sales people like fast food workers.

I worked at Sunrun full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay was reasonable, benefits standard but eligibility quite fast. Well meaning and decent managers quite often left to deliver bad news in a chaotic environment or twist in the mind.

    Cons

Sunrun values are a charade, ideals not practiced on a practical level. Many unconscionable policy changes effecting hours, rate of pay and commissions signals a gross disregard for the welfare of employees. What good is a planet run by the sun if you treat people poorly?

    Advice to Management

The constant chaos and numbers panicked short term thinking ultimately wiped out already poor morale. Losing good people, high turnover and all the costs tbat go along with that breeds instability. You're confusing a fast faced, exciting growth opportunity in a rapidly changing field with job insecurity and demoralized employees. Pep rallies are short lived. Be real - don't just talk about it.

I worked at Sunrun (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Helps the environment, check don't bounce (not yet at least)

    Cons

Sunrun, SolarCity, Vivint, Verango, and most of the large solar companies rip off their sales staff. Paying a rep $300 on a $30,000.00 solar system sales is thievery. If you don't make four sales a month, you get absolutely nothing, $0, that's right $). It's a wonder sales rep even work here or any of the large solar companies for that matter. Sales staff works 80 hour work weeks and gets paid little. There is no work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Ethics, ethics, ethics. Do what is right. Sales commissions should be 10 times what you are paying. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
