    Pros

Great Culture. High energy environment. You can make decent money if your willing.

    Cons

Work, life balance no so good. Lots of driving with company car. Supervisor always asking what you have going on. Can get let go if you don't sell enough.

    Advice to Management

Speak to the salesforce truthfully. Don't hide things. Let them know what you think of how they are doing for the good and bad. Let them know where they stand with the company.

I worked at Sunrun full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Southern California market is a fun and educational environment. Everyone on the teams there are driven and intelligent. Management was engaged and has the backs of their teams. The company is in a position to be the powerhouse of the solar and energy market in the US.

    Cons

Ever changing rules and procedures. It kept things interesting but also proved to be a challenge having to adjust constantly. Worst part about corporate is their carelessness with your personal information. My information was compromised twice in the year and half I worked for the company. And their response was piss-poor at best.

    Advice to Management

Regional management is phenomenal. Upper management, listen to your employees and stop pandering to your share holders. You'll be more successful in the long run.

    Pros

The mission. Create a planet run by the sun.

    Cons

Large company which doesn't allow market flexibility in real time.

    Advice to Management

Remove protection of area turf. Let the reps generation grow organic.

I worked at Sunrun full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hours can be flexible but they don’t like you taking time off.

    Cons

They expect you to be in your phone 24/7 with no real downtime. They don’t give a sufficient ramp up period. It’s not always easy to get questions answered and the training is less than optimal. Be ready to train yourself. Unless you already are in the industry and know everything they don’t help you. They also play favorites when generating leads. For them it’s about quantity and not quality. They don’t really set you up for success. Plus if they let you go, be careful because they will try to do anything to avoid paying commissions owed to you.

    Advice to Management

Be proactive in mentoring your employees. Don’t be a sayer and not a doer. If an employee tells you what they need a manager should want them to succeed and help them get there.

I worked at Sunrun (More than a year)

    Pros

Clean energy is a good thing.

    Cons

Terrible leadership; dishonest, incompetent, and unethical. The company is “cooking the books” and misleading it’s shareholders while burning cash. Lower and middle managers are uninspired, traditional elitist, authoritarian style bosses that you hate to work for. Sunrun claims to be “human centered “ towards their employees but it’s only if you are a manager. It’s a hamburgers and sports culture in a clean energy company. Leadership doesn’t address issues or concerns and will make your life more difficult if you say anything. Hiring and promotion practices are disgusting; positions go to bosses personal friends, people who haven’t been there very long, and those that don’t question. If you are there because you actually care about the environment then it’s the wrong place for you; your coworkers don’t and will resent you for it. Coworkers will abuse your time and harm you to fake their own numbers. Struggles between departments are unreal and nobody is focused on the real goal (solar installations) but are more interested in “sales” and managers bonuses tied to numbers which are then inflated to mislead investors.

    Advice to Management

Get beyond high school and stop hiring managers that haven’t. Think, plan, and act beyond next quarter. Become a clean energy company and create a culture that is welcoming to people who are inspired to help. You need better oversight and internal controls over lower and middle managers. Sunrun badly needs a real HR department, there is nobody to turn to when you have issues, you just have to deal or quit. Be careful about the entrenched leadership; they are draining talent, forcing out anyone who is higher quality so that they have no threats and then install their cronies to shield them from below and to take the bullets from above. Good luck, what a mess...

I worked at Sunrun full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nice people to work with.

    Cons

Very competitive industry and Sunrun does not really have a competitive edge over the 100 other solar companies in the area so self generating leads is very difficult.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time and energy showing your new hires how to get leads. Going door to door isnt really an effective route.

I have been working at Sunrun full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly coworkers and company culture.

    Cons

Incompetent management, disorganization, needlessly complicated commission structure, and horrible follow through regarding payment of commissions and reimbursement for expense reports.

The product and customer service are terrible. If you value honesty in your work, do not join the sales team here.

I have been working at Sunrun full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only solar company I have sold for that actually cares about your ideas/issues/suggestions. They want to have the best operation and are constantly working on making Sunrun a better business and place to work. They reward handsomely for selling referrals and/or high volume so you can make big bucks doing either or both. They are smart about the way they do things and have the best products around, which make it so easy to sell!

    Cons

As with any growing company there are growing pains. over the past couple years here I have seen many growing pains but I have also never seen an issue go longer than 3 months without getting solved. Your comp plan is contingent upon a low cancellation rate, so you better not have a bad month or quarter for cancels or else you will feel it!

    Advice to Management

Give your top performers a cool trip or something big to look forward to besides recognition :)
