    Pros

A culture that really fostered a deep knowledge of the products we sold. There were trainings at the headquarters multiple times a month by the various companies that allowed us to get knowledge from the formulators themselves.

    Cons

The culture changed to a very sales driven environment after the buyout. No longer was it 'do right by the customer and they will come back'. Now it is 'get another item into the customer's hand because they may not come back'.

    Advice to Management

Resume the trainings at HQ, they were an integral part of what made SS so awesome.

I worked at Super Supplements full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It was a wonderful mid-sized company with a family feel. Great at prioritizing training and education for all team members. This was maybe my all-time favorite place I have worked at....

    Cons

...Then Vitamin Shoppe bought Super Sups. It is no longer anything like it was and most of the original, passionate, natural products industry focused people have left.

    Advice to Management

Any advice would fall on deaf ears at Vitamin Shoppe who said when they bought the company that they didn't want to change anything since they were buying the company for the "special sauce" that made it great and a huge competitor to them before the purchase. Currently, they are slowly re-branding the stores to the Vitamin Shoppe look and feel.

I worked at Super Supplements full-time

    Pros

Coworkers, environment and educational training back when it was SS.

    Cons

Too many cons. No longer offer trainings so people know the products we are selling, take away of benefits and bonuses. Products we have carried for a period of time are no longer available and VS brand is replacing items on the shelf. Depending on the store some areas are still better to work at than others. It just equates to the fact it is not the same store anymore and if anyone worked there prior to VS days knows what I mean.

    Advice to Management

The stores are beyond help at this point.

I worked at Super Supplements full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Somewhat competitive pay for an entry-level job (Health Enthusiast). Thoughtful staff and company ethics. Exposure to lots of good health and wellness education. Opportunity to feel like you are genuinely helping your customers on a daily basis.

    Cons

Some of the bonus/benefit structures were changed after they were bought out by Vitamin Shoppe.

    Advice to Management

Advocate for Vitamin Shoppe adopting more of the genuine values that made Super Supplements so successful.

I worked at Super Supplements full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, the work is fun and you learn a lot. Your get to research product and health issues. I really liked helping customers reach workable solutions for their health goals

    Cons

Company was purchased by Vitamin Shoppe. Customer service expectations dropped as well as product trainings. They don't focus on the customer anymore or on the quality of product. It's ok, but not anywhere close to how special Super Supplements was before the buy-out. Quality of service all around dropped, as well as employee empowerment. Boo Vitamin Shoppe, and now Super Supplements.

    Advice to Management

Learn from the previous business model since SS out sold all Vitamin Shoppe stores. Your customers (who are upset you don't care) will appreciate it. And treat your employees like assets, not potential thieves and liabilities.

    Pros

Knowledge of products in the supplements industry. Healthy discount, opportunity to help other s while learning.

    Cons

Upper management doesn't care about the employees. Puts unrealistic expectations upon employees. Will get rid of employees the moment they realize the person isn't a yes man/woman

    Pros

It is a fascinating industry and you learn new things every day.

    Cons

The pay scale is low considering how much they want you to learn on your own.

    Advice to Management

keep your good employees! Upper management lets the good ones get away too easily. In 5 year there will be no distinction between Super Supplements and any other vitamin retailer. There are very, very qualified ASM's and Keyholders that are more than capable of running a store but the growing leaders program is an unnecessary road block and not that great of a program to boot.

    Pros

Local company with a constant flow of new opportunities in management.
Vendor product training's are held frequently.
    Family culture

    Cons

Loss of culture due to acquisition. Everything that made SS a unique place to work is being replaced.

    Advice to Management

Stick to the fundamentals that made Super Supplements such a unique place to shop. It is now just another boring retail store. So sad.
