I have been working at Surrey County Council full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Being council, its really beneficial for working mums. 24 days of generous annual leave. I can decide my hours. Manager is really good. Allows you to think how you can complete within your deadlines. Full support is provided. Regular 1:1 supervisions with the line managers also helps. Salary is not very good but not bad either compared to what other companies are offering. Good amount of Surrey discounts available for employees.

    Cons

No stability due to tight budgets. People are on rolled over secondments and contracts. Constant change in the processes and Finance systems which can put you off.

    Advice to Management

Management should focus on making people permanent.

I have been working at Surrey County Council full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great frontline teams,
Colleagues go out of their way to help

    Cons

In addition to the title of this review, the senior management is out of touch. They endorse poor culture and poor working conditions - you need gloves and coat to work in some offices because they are saving on heating, leaking roofs and drafty windows. There are accidents at work (sprained ankles, falls) because the flooring is so old that there are uneven surfaces under the carpets (but post room got full refurb where foot traffic is minimal - no idea why).

    Advice to Management

Change. Don’t shift people around but rehire senior management team. Stop promoting those with no people skills to managers positions.

I have been working at Surrey County Council full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dedicated & supportive front line colleagues who work hard to deliver services with limited resources.
Some excellent Managers who lead with emotional intelligence & common sense

    Cons

Poor & unfair recruitment practice in Chidlrens Servicex .Recruitment & promotion of friends & relatives has created an unhealthy & unprofessional culture where blatant favouritism is rife.
No real acknowledgment of staff who work hard & perform.
Some ineffectual & borderline incompetent Senior Managers.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example & value & treat all your staff consistently.

I worked at Surrey County Council part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Truly can’t think of any, other than getting paid for hours put in.

    Cons

Lack of empathy for employees. Poor management. Lacking common sense when it comes to everyday tasks. Revolving door when it comes to supervisors (who are hired out of desperation, therefore not having real skills or proper experience to get a job done).

    Advice to Management

Try listening to all employees...not just the one who gets to you first.
