I have been working at Susquehanna Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great pay; great co-workers; great MDs; fabulous patients!

    Cons

    Management; inflexible scheduling, that is, 8 hr shifts and not 12 hr shifts;

    Advice to Management

Work a day in the nurses shoes because you are clueless; listen to your nurses and initiate changes as needed and desired by your great nurses!

I have been working at Susquehanna Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Really nice people to work with, friendly atmosphere. Hometown feel with a lot of great professionals. Shorter wait times for outpatient, more beds open for inpatient.

    Cons

Management and administration are clueless, let bad people run the place, abuse FMLAs, etc. Not many know the jobs done by people below them.

    Advice to Management

Get involved and learn your employees' jobs or get out. Hire people who are reliable instead of merely available. Don't assume your job isn't expendable.

I worked at Susquehanna Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

IT department has a very work together to get it done family kind of attitude. People are willing to assist one another help each other grow and learn. There's some very good, technical minded talent in this organization. One of my personal favorite places I have ever worked for. Room for advancement if desired.

    Cons

Benefits were't completely stellar. HR department is complete garbage. Took them roughly 6 months to get me in even though the hiring manager already made his decision.

I have been working at Susquehanna Health full-time

    Pros

Faith-based organization in good financial status. Positively positioned to grow in the changing healthcare environment. Results focused with patient safety and experience at the helm!

    Cons

Unavailability of some specialities to provide continuity of care.

    Advice to Management

Stay current on evidence based care and take a firm zero tolerance stance with unprofessional physician behaviors.

I have been working at Susquehanna Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very nice people up at SSMH. Everyone usually works pretty well together, and personal/career advancement is not only available, but highly encouraged. The pay is also pretty nice.

    Cons

Charting system (soarian) is absolutely lousy. There is a possible merger with UPMC in the future. Also, it's a very small town, so expect small town mentality.

    Pros

Offers benefits but they aren't that great.

    Cons

Horrible Pay....overworked and under paid. They do not care about employees or the pts. It's all about the almighty dollar. Poorly managed company.

    Advice to Management

    Care about your employees.

    Pros

    Faith-based, patient centered care provider
    Competitive salary
Benefits and PTO accrual start upon hire
Department I worked in was M-F first shift, perfect for a working mother
    Cutting-edge technology in place
Thoughtful, helpful physicians to work with

    Cons

The nurse managers pick favorites from the start, if you don't "fit in" you can tell immediately and they will do what they can to get you out the door. Policies are only enforced on those said employees. The cost of benefits are absolutely outrageous and are crap, they barely pay for anything. Tuition reimbursement, child care assistance is a joke. They put you on a waiting list for tuition and it is next to nothing and child care assistance is something like $5/week. It costs $160/wk per child for full-time care at the near-by childcare facility! The nurses are intimidated by newcomers who form good relationships with the docs, they let you know it real quick. The gossip and banter is ridiculous. The older nurses think they put their time in, get paid double the new nurses, if not more and do absolutely no work, so you better pray you don't get one as your preceptor... you'll be up poop creek without a paddle.

    Advice to Management

    Enforce policies equally.
    Stop playing favorites.
The turn-over rate wouldn't be so high if you would actually look at the employee's circumstances on an individualized basis, but then again, I wasn't one of the "favorites" so I didn't matter. Neither did the fact that all my patient surveys came back with excellence, the physicians loved me, they actually fought over who was going to have me on their team. It is what it is. I doubt anything will change, because your "values" are so deeply engrained, that it's not even funny!
