I have been working at Sutherland full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Detailed code of conduct and stand by it. Treat people well in all situations. Very large, global company but open in communication with all aspects of their business. They recognize their strengths and weaknesses and act upon them accordingly; for example tech was a con until recently they acquired a new company to improve that for their clients and employees.

    Cons

Not very many US locations to work. The work-from-home is also seasonal and mostly at an agent level. Would love to see the hub or micro site used in large cities to attract more talent and opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Honesty is the best policy and I believe you do it well. It starts with the top and works it's way down making everyone feel important. Keep up the good work!

    Pros

The best reasons to work for Sutherland is that you can use the time to research other things on the web and find another job. If you are smart, you won't waste your time waiting between calls, but try to further yourself by either looking for a better job, reading a book, or simply utilize the computer to your advantage.

It is a great way to be payed for doing your own business but with constant interruptions by annoying callers who think that their insignificant issues are catastrophes to the world.

You can do your nails, go to cnn.com, learn about the economy, politics, shop on line, eat at your desk, etc. Basically, if you have anything that requires you to sit down and do, take it to Sutherlands and do it there, that way you are also using your time to do it and having Mr. Dilip R. Vellodi pay you for doing so.

Another reason Sutherland is a great place to work, it allows people with little or no education to be trained and be given a sense of high self-esteem because they have mastered a three week course.

You are basically left alone to work.

    Cons

the downsides of sutherlands is that
    1) Very poor pay, long hours
    2) Clueless supervisors
    3) Treats employees as machines
    4) Supervisors believe they are apostles of a higher being
    5) Pays little, but somehow believes every employee should pay for their little charity contributions, when the employees are in need of those charities
    6) The company prides itself in thinking out of the box, yet train their employees to be very inflexible of any issue pertaining to the employee
    7) Upper management is clearly ran by a some sort of nepotism.
    8) Part-time is the worst status for any employee.

No one should stay past 6 months to 1 year, because you will be wasting your precious time working under someone while they are enjoying leisure time at your expense.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better, they deserve better than the treatment they receive.

    Pros

I guess it's better than collecting unemployment but one finds it hard to understand how they get by treating their employees so terribly.

    Cons

Management is a joke, it could be a good place to work if management was fixed. There is a significant defect with the training within this organization. maybe if they were publicly traded things would be different.

    Advice to Management

senior management is OK, they really need to look at their program level management and work on keeping their best employees around. I am a current top performer at this company but can't wait to get out.

    Pros

Pay is good, but still not enough for how bad the job is. The building is alright, but your two foot wide cubicle is terrible.

    Cons

I can't stress enough how bad this job was. I came home and cried more than once. I guess it kind of depends on which program you're in, but they usually start you in the worst ones. People are so mean and difficult but you're forced to keep trying to sell to people, even if they tell you they have cancer or somehing and cant afford it. Dont work here.

    Advice to Management

The management are terribly fake, horrible people. They'll usually be very very nice to you, but still while telling you your hardest work isn't enough.

    Pros

Easy to get in. The turn over rate at this company is so high they might as well install revolving doors instead of the current ones.

    Cons

Far too many to name, but I'll try. I'm a former employee so sorry if I come off a bit disgruntled. Firstly the pay is barely enough to pay for gas to make it to in to work. Unless you work late nights (which was one of the shifts I worked) finding parking is just out of the question. There is no advancement or chance to move up in the ranks, this coming from some who work there for 3 years doing the same job. Seems like the people who are good on the phones are forced to stay on the phones, and the ones who where able to get buddy buddy with managers and higher up were moving up in a matter of months. Favoritism always won over who was more qualified. Managers themselves did everything they could to avoid taking sup calls. If the poor management wasn't enough to set one off, the manditory overtime and forced 30 min lunchtime per 9 hour shift. There's more to go on about, but I'm getting angry thinking about something not worth it. Bottom line is sutherland doesn't care about there employees. I worked in the same department for close to 4 years, my job performance was great, then due to circumstances out of my control I was late to work for less than a month and was let go. Hmm... Interesting that should happen after a bunch of new hires and a raise right around the corner.

    Advice to Management

I really hope the higher ups realize how bad it really is at the lower levels of your "wonderful" company. Upset enough people, you'll see word will spread fast. I don't think clients will sell contracts to outsourcers who can't make their own drones happy.

    Pros

    Good experience on resume
    Easy to get hired

Sutherland is a good place straight out of school to get some relevant experience to put on your resume. That's about all you'll gain here. We had 2 weeks of paid training which you will get a crash course on what you need to be proficient in. Sutherland will hire anybody with a good attitude and very basic knowledge of PCs. This would be a Con if you're competent because it lowers the overall quality of your program.

    Cons

    Low pay
    Long work hours
    Thankless job

Working tech support at Sutherland Global Services you can expect to be paid at least 40% below national average for your line of work. You will work long, thankless hours and the more talented you are, the more you will be taken advantage of. You will recieve a larger work load to compensate for the lower quality portion of the techs. Sutherland Global Services from what I've seen, will keep the terrible techs because I suppose they're too soft to let people go. That is a Pro if you lack confidence in your abilities or knowledge. If you want to advance around here it's simple...you do not have to be smart, just suck up to your superiors and become their buddys. Advancement will go to friends first and the deserving if there are no friends left. At the end, our program was very successful and we got outsourced to call centers in India where Sutherland could pay their employees much less.

    Advice to Management

Have at least two levels for your techs. 90% would make up your basic techs and 10% would make up the Senior Techs. Pay the Senior techs $1-2 more an hour and have their primary duties be to field the more difficult calls and educate the techs who are struggling or inadequate. Being a Senior tech would hinge more on knowledge, ability to handle customers and leadership rather than years of service. This will raise the overall level of quality of the service provided and give motivation to the Basic Techs to become more proficient.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Sutherland full-time

    Pros

    steady paycheck
    health insurance benifits
    work at home opportunities
If your not happy with one program you can eventually transfer over somewhere else

    Cons

much lower pay than if employed by the actual company itself no sick time or perks exist here
working holdays with no extra pay just a "floater" sadly missing out on precious family events
unrealistic goals and expectations expect to be stressed out continuously
becoming more aggressive finding ways to "nickle and dime" your pay and or commissions.
requesting vacation time is strongly discouraged so better not plan on booking any plane tickets
Sutherland has steadily been developing a cruel demeanor twards its associates that is making for a much more obvious unhappy work envoronment.

    Advice to Management

Your leading a never ending uphill battle until this oranization folds its definatly going to get worse as time passes thats for sure a guarantee.
