I worked at Sutter Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent health benefits. I would even say is the best benefits I had from all my previous jobs. Good Paid Time Off. I get about 32-36 days off per year (this includes the 9 days national holidays Sutter observed) after working there for 9 years. So I get to take several 2 weeks vacation every year.

    Cons

Poor upper management. Sutter put people who are not intelligent, have no management skills, bias, play favoritism, and lack experience in managerial role. There are lots of favoritism going around and people who are friends with upper leadership gets promoted very quickly even though they are not qualify for the position and has no former experience. Because of this there's a high turn around of long term employees who have a lot of experience and ability. Those who are able, left. Those who remains are the one who can't go anywhere else and they stay to be protected by their friends. It's a really bad morale situation and leadership just close a blind eye and try to make everyone get along.

Lack of upward mobility - slow to promote and not many positions for advancement. No career coaching for employees.

    Pros

Top healthcare provider in Northern California. Proud to be associated with the organization

    Cons

IT remains out of touch with healthcare business. Constant re-organizations made no improvement. Lack direction and vision in recent years.

    Pros

Work is busy and challenging, but that makes it mentally stimulating and rewarding. Managers and directors try to excel in all they do, and they have a really dedicated team.

    Cons

Depending on which department you work for, telecommuting may or may not be a possibility. Would be nice if telecommuting were consistently available across the organization.

    Advice to Management

Would be nice to provide more telecommuting options or a more flexible work schedule. Also, more stand-up desks would be preferred to help with ergonomics. Provider massage chair for breaks.

I worked at Sutter Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are unmatched. The in-network doctors are MDs that I would recommend to friends and others, and I've been pleased!
Good salary (maybe not as high as Kaiser)
    Non-unionized (as of yet)
Feels like they HIGHLY value their employees (your mileage mary vary based on care center)

    Cons

The constant implementation of new practices and the attempt to make the organization more lean. This has an adverse affect on employee productivity -- as many struggle to change their ways and/or half-heartedly embrace new values.
Seems like the Shared Staff / Backup Staff are never available when you REALLY need them.

    Advice to Management

Take a step back, and realize that being LEAN doesn't necessarily have to involve a complete reshaping of processes. Possibly pay more for MAs. Provide more career opportunities (Tuition Reimbursement is appreciated, though!)

I have been working at Sutter Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    -Nice place work
    -Flexible Schedules
    -Pay is average
    -Health Insurance/Benefits are average

    Cons

Similar with other companies IT management gets in the way of progress/cost savings other then that no Cons! Great place to work!

    Advice to Management

From an IT perspective allow the IT professionals to drive solutions for IT thereby managing cost and project scope. All to often IT middle management wants to champion/own a process to keep themselves relevant without understanding the technology or true ROI.

    Pros

Nice coworkers, good benefits, great building

    Cons

There is a lot of favoritism there. It's not what you know it's pretty much who you know to get ahead. They don't care about family or yourself when you get sick.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to have better social skills and to be more fair to the other employees besides their friends. Stop trying to be separate from the other Sutter Affiliates
