No room for advancement unless you apply for a different position within the company, not your department.

      Good company to work for

Apr 14, 2020 - Registered Nurse, BSN in Sacramento, CA
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Sutter Health gives Registered Nurses room to grow and be independent problem solvers without micromanaging like other healthcare systems. Staff are generally friendly to work with. Sutter has a collaborative work environment. Sutter Health as an organization has been supportive to staff during the Covid-19 crisis, which shows they care about their employees.

      Cons

Each unit or has their own rules, nothing is straight across the board hospital-wide, in terms of work-life balance. The management for the specialty unit I work for is constantly going through growing pains and sometimes there is chaos; My particular unit doesn't have room for flexibility for getting time off; Employees must work every other weekend (some staff Fri-Sun) with little flexibility for getting time off when needed for work-life balance; If there is a low unit census, you are "called off" only 1 hr 15 minutes before reporting to your shift, which is tough on employees who live 30 minutes to 1 hour away. Benefits are good, but not as competitive as other health care systems.

      Pros

Promoting a positive work-life balance, and they mean it! The leadership tries to practice what they preach. Good opportunities to learn in-house. Peers teach each other their disciplines, and the knowledge sharing is solid. Great total compensation package.

      Cons

Leadership is out of touch with employees who are not located in headquarters. Leaders need to be more open and receptive to constructive criticism. Organization is too top heavy, and there is very little diversity in the leadership team. There is no new voice or opinion, or attempts to bring in new perspectives.

      Unrealistic Expectations

      Mar 11, 2020 - Network Engineer

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great Health Benefits, determined individuals, lots of new technology.

      Cons

Working 16 to 18 hour days is the norm with constant escalations. Zero work-life balance, average engineer will work 65 to 75 hr work weeks. Very little accountability is taken from top senior leadership. Very cut throat, never know when your last day is, especially if you are a top performer. Knee jerk reaction is constant and measures will be put in place to make things difficult for you as well. It’s unfortunate to see engineers or managers/supervisors mentally and physically exhausted walking in the halls. They are only sticking it out because they are determined and wish things will get better. Unfortunately, it just gets worse. Approach with cation.
