I worked at Swan and Dolphin Resort part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Had a lot of fun, made some of my closest friends, respectful co-workers/managers/employees, significant management presence (GM, hotel manager...not to mention they remember you from orientation!), valuable experiences, met/worked with/trained people from across the globe

    Cons

Occasional scheduling issues (this was during my last semester of college so I had some weekdays unavailable), sometimes not very timely getting back to emails (ex: HR dept.)

    Pros

Benefits, cafeteria, Disney passes, resort is very prestigious. Opportunity to transfer to a different department after six months.

    Cons

No breaks, not much growth, managers don't seem to care about you.

    Advice to Management

Stop overworking employees with no lunch break.

    Pros

Beautiful place to work. You get to meet people from all over the world with diverse backgrounds.

    Cons

It is an old building with a lot of problems. If you are working front desk, all the problems come back on you and it can make it a negative place to work. Management was also so strict on what you have to say to guest that conversation becomes scripted and rehearsed taking the fun out of what could be very fun, unique conversations with guests. It made conversations impersonal and less memorable.

I have been working at Swan and Dolphin Resort full-time

    Pros

Very little Pros if you are an established Professional. This is a company for entry level employees. Do not expect to be treated well or with any respect.

    Cons

Company only cares about profit and does not compensate employees for unfair decisions that are made at the employees expense or put any value on employee morale. They expect employees to park off property for months at a time and be bused to work so that they can include employee parking lots in their sales contracts which greatly increase the employees work day hours and frustration with absolutely no compensation. Long hours and no holidays off or holiday pay. Health benefits are ridiculously expensive and the plans barely cover anything.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees and recognize that great employees have a monetary value and that your employees comfort matters. Only focusing on sales opportunities at your employees expense is what causes the massive amount of turnover here and why no good employees want to stay here long term. This is why all staff is mediocre and the good ones are always looking for better employment and a way out. Learn the difference between entry level staff and Professionals. Skilled staff expect a certain level of treatment and can easily find it with other employers, so you will never retain quality talent with your "sell at all costs" mentality.

  10. "Terrible place to work for F&B."

I worked at Swan and Dolphin Resort full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is absolutely no pro in working at this place. The only thing I can say was the money was decent.

    Cons

It's a mafia in the F&B department! You can't move up at all unless you pledge your allegiance to the Mafia boss.

You are treated like a number and the no manager cares how hard they work you.

The hotel is extremely old and very little money is put into renovations. There was a recent renovation and you can see how cheap it is.

The hotel only cares about turning a profit. That's the first thing you will hear from the top dog in new hire orientation. If you plan on working here then stay away if you're in F&B.

Hopefully since Marriott is coming in they'll wipe out the management and make it a better place to work.

    Advice to Management

Stop living in the past. The Swan and Dolphin isn't the standard for Orlando Hotels anymore.

    Pros

Great benefits! Health benefits are affordable, discounted hotel stays world-wide and an overall great company to work for...

    Cons

    Long hours for management.

    Advice to Management

Don't expect to have a social life.
