    Cons

    It sometimes felt very corporate.

I have been working at Swanson Health Products full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Gym on site, good coworkers, flexibility if you have appts, etc. they also have a health program that pays out money for being heathy.

    Cons

Recently bought out and lack of direction by management. No longer family owned and now a money making business that will be sold in 5 years or so. Added Chicago branch for execs and everyone is being hired there. Lack of job security now. Heath insurance has gotten worse each year and cost has gone up each year.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees who have been with the company more than a couple years. Management is completely new within the last year and they just sit in Chicago and don't get advice from people who know Swanson/their customers.

This department is very respectful and won't ever micromanage to get things done. Instead, they treat all their employees with great respect which allows for more productivity and leadership in one's role.

    Cons

Parking can get a little tricky, especially during winter season but thats expected anywhere.

    Advice to Management

For new owners, please preserve as much of what's already been built.

    Cons

Customer questions not always able to answer efficiently from information given through website.

    Advice to Management

At this time I have no recommendations to the management. Thought they did well for the most part.

I worked at Swanson Health Products full-time

    Pros

Free parking. Free goodies from time to time. Some of the people. Flexible work schedule.

    Cons

MIS department is an absolute mess; no test environment; very old package software with no source code; number of work orders that are closed quickly is more important than quality, which leads to more open requests and a bad reputation throughout the company; thoughtful design always an afterthought; data integrity not a priority; attitude is to get things installed in a hurry and then fix any issues later; manager plays favorites and constantly inspects your every move if you aren't part of the "buddy" crowd despite having poor programming techniques of his own and not knowing what a field reference file is; not a word of thanks from management despite saving the company 400K a month converting shipping carriers; not treated as a professional with value; president planning to retire and company is obviously being positioned to be sold; customer service department being outsourced to Grenada, MIS department will most likely be next... much, much more. Worst programming environment and management encountered in 25 years.

    Advice to Management

It would fall on deaf ears.

I worked at Swanson Health Products (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good discount on a lot of products
Good health, vision insurance benefits and low cost on those benefits
    very easy job to do

    Cons

    Very, very boring
    No relationship with your coworkers
They want you to sell preselected items to people, even if their order is totally unrelated to those items. Even expect you to sell to a customer I'd the customer says they can't take that product. The job title is "customer service representative" but should be " pushy salesman".
They throw a great holiday party and have good but couldn't care less about you individually...especially if you have a health problem or injury

    Advice to Management

Be more empathetic to anyone who falls ill or has a family tragedy. Actually train new employees how to do the job you want them to do instead of how to fill out orders, since you actually want salesmen not people who help customers that already know what they want

I worked at Swanson Health Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sure you get to purchase products "at cost"
you also get to sample some items
    somewhat flexible with school schedules
    Job security
there are very nice people that work there

    Cons

its a call center, so you can't expect to build relationships with other team members as you are always on the phone
the company is booming yet this is not reflected in your bonus although they have raised wages significantly since I was there.
very limited upward mobility, even if you hold a degree

    Advice to Management

3 simple things - it would be nice if the person making the schedules for the call center reps was more approachable. this could actually help with turnover.
second, there have been complaints about 1 particular Lead/supervisor yet she was never fired.
lastly, PLEASE update those OLD monitors!! no one wants to work in an outdated environment.
