I have been working at Swedish Match North America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Company car, profit sharing, 401k match, sales bonus, better than average insurance

    Cons

Pay growth much slower than product growth. New products every year added to current portfolio with no noticeable pay increase. Always hear excuses why pay increases can't be a one off, and everyone gets the same increases yearly with little information on why and how the increases were given.

    Advice to Management

Performance based pay increases yearly, hr needs to be more involved in the pay increase conversation.

I worked at Swedish Match North America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, company car, most holidays off, good insurance. Pay could be better. Most of the time you work on your own. Good training.

    Cons

Very low market share. Your two big competitors have about 90% of the market. SMNA has about 5%. You will reach your goals because your accounts like you, not because of your product. SMNA is big into the flavored cigars, grape, peach, banana, sweets, that are aimed at kids. Laws are changing that will kill their business. This is not a good field to get into.
VERY NEGATIVE MANAGEMENT, you will work with your boss once or twice a quarter and their boss once a quarter. Very stressful be ready to hear about anything that is not right. SMNA is a good old boy environment. Good luck if you are a woman or a minority. Too much paper work that you must catch up on, during the week-end. If married your spouse will be the first to let you know that you don't have a life any more.

    Advice to Management

Have management take some classes at a university to learn a more currant style of management. Management through intimidation is not as effective as management through motivation. WAKE UP SMNA pretend that your employees are a valuable asset.

I worked at Swedish Match North America (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Was a great place to work 25 years ago

    Cons

They took away our bonuses, Christmas Party, Childrens Christmas Party and thanksgiving turkeys. They treat people like slaves. I was on call 24/7 365 days a year and received no additional compensation for this. They have lost the wonderful respect they had for their employees when I started working with them.

    Advice to Management

Your enployees are your most valuble resourse, quit chasing them away.

I worked at Swedish Match North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very nice manager who gave senior members good chances to show leadership skills.
    Independent work as outside rep
    Great benefits

    Cons

    Low comp
No room to move unless you want to move all over US due to small sales force

    Advice to Management

Pay people equal to competitors and offer larger bonus. Seriously a yearly bonus of $4000 does not cut it.

    Pros

For the Dothan work area They have the best benefits. If you work in the Dothan area this is one of the top 3 places you look for. There have been a lot of ups and downs but i wouldn't trade it.

    Cons

Not many, Hours can change with little notice sometimes, but that's the nature of the business.

    Advice to Management

I've seen a lot of business leave our area, Keep doing what your doing to keep us here!
