I have been working at Swedish Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, stock options, and 401k matching. There are some long term employees in the lab with a lot of valuable experience and knowledge. Phlebotomy supplies are well stocked. Employees are welcome to share their thoughts during meetings and on surveys. Management tries to fix issues that they can (their hands are tied though). Tyler H (corporate) has pushed for real changes to help us.

    Cons

The productivity standards (which the lab doesn't control) are unrealistic and often dangerous. We're told the lab is "fully staffed" but routinely only have two phlebotomists/lab assistants per shift on evenings and nights. This is half of what is truly needed (they have other duties on top of drawing!) and causes the nurses and doctors to become angry with the lab, which increases already sky high stress levels....

    Advice to Management

Understand the importance of the lab in patient care. We are the phlebotomists drawing good patient samples to eliminate preanalytical errors. We are the technologists and scientists who run and interpret complex tests (none of us has a license in 'button-pushing'). Our results are almost always necessary for caregivers to diagnose and treat patients. There is a shortage in this field and you are losing good employees...

I have been working at Swedish Medical Center full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

The culture at Swedish Medical Center is supportive, focused on quality, and overall teamwork. Patient care is the highest priority. The people are what have kept me here for > 10 years.

    Cons

The building is always under construction, but that is also a plus! Swedish is always growing to whatever the community needs.

I have been working at Swedish Medical Center part-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

physicians are excellent. patient care is pretty good.

    Cons

management really is bad, the degree of competency in ARNP varies greatly

    Advice to Management

if you are trying to save a buck using ARNP instead of MD for patient care, the quality of patient care suffers

I worked at Swedish Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are some good people working there, coffee shop nice on ground floor open on nights. There are parking garage that’s free. There is 20 word minimum.

    Cons

It is not a good place to start as a new grad. They expect new grads to be able to take 4 patients first day. There is five weeks of orientation, and if you ask question it will count against you. The nurses are very catty and back stabbing, this place is an example of how nurses eat there young. Dangerous staffing ratio 1:8 and not enough techs to help out 1:20. Patient are charged everything down to the toothpaste....

I have been working at Swedish Medical Center full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

The frontline are great, even though there is little support for Senior Leaders

    Cons

Micromanaged to the extreme. New CNO is obsessed with documenting every conversation that is had with staff. Spend more time on documenting and auditing, leaving no time for patient care or what is important. It has become a very punitive environment, what is done wrong is what is pointed out and staff are very frustrated.

    Advice to Management

Let your team do their jobs and trust your team. New Senior Team is lacking in being involved with the frontline staff, feels like they could care less.
