I worked at Swift Transportation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was working with great people. Very friendly atmosphere. Good training program. I could always count on support when needed.

    Cons

Sometimes too much emphasis on numbers like KPI or appearance. There is a lot of pressure from the corporate office on stuff that is not helping anyone but looks good on paper.

    Advice to Management

It would be great to raise salaries to match industry averages. The pay raises exist but they are not god enough in my opinion.

I worked at Swift Transportation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Swift is, as all companies are, exactly what you make it out to be. If you're easy to deal with, accept and arrive to your p/u's and deliveries on time than you will have absolutely zero trouble with the company. Now...if you're that super trucker that can do no wrong...than you're in trouble, at Swift or anywhere.
I started as company driver making dirt for money (cause if you're new this is how it works) but within 18 months I went to Lease Op Mentor and began raking in the cash. My take home $$ after expenses (but before taxes) was easily over $100,000. I worked HARD! 70+ hours and I lived for the next load. If this isn't you or you can't commit to that level of work because of family, etc. than your results will be less. Think about it.

    Cons

Support staff were only friendly and polite on occasion. This isn't a Swift thing. This is a trucking thing.

    Advice to Management

Stress customer service and manners to support staff

I worked at Swift Transportation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked with me to get dedecated route after only 90days OTR.

    Cons

Unpredictable load departure times. I'm sure this is so with many other transportation companys however, to me the hours where rediculous. Never had a day to relax. Working with this new company I know at the end of my 4th consecutive day in a row for a week I get a full 72hours off. So I can plan a little more and use less pto.

I have been working at Swift Transportation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is plenty of growth potential on this company. You could start as a driver and grow in ranks in this company.

    Cons

Market conditions and company performance has been pretty bad on the past two years, and this has been the main reason of lacking yearly raises; this opens up the opportunity to other companies to hire out talented individuals.

    Advice to Management

I would create an specialized multi-disciplinary team to maximize driver miles from less than 1800 to 3000 per week. There has to be an in-house-built algorithm that would linearly solve the best truck to dispatch on command; the second the driver completes the current load, the next best load needs to be dispatched--(No wasting time or lag-time).

I worked at Swift Transportation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Intermodal driver in Chicago area. Additional 40 bucks for every load you hook. Always able to roll after 10hr which means miles.
Night pay is now offered, even more on weekends. 2 friends still currently work there
    Home on weekends every weekend.

    Cons

Live unloads may burn your 14hr.
