I have been working at Swingle Collins & Associates full-time

    Pros

Top of their field, top compensation, committed to education, committed to doing what is best for the customer, respected in the industry, focused on growth and nice office with underground parking :) .

    Cons

..can't be great at everything when you are growing as quickly as they have, it's a process. There are kinks as things go, but fighting hard to work it out. Hard to add educated and committed staff along the way. This isn't an industry where you can find qualified people easily, so it takes a long time to get people to a point of independence and consistency. You are held to a very high standard within this industry and there isn't room for even small mistakes. You have to be focused and working all the time. Most people don't want to work this hard to be paid this well, over time.

    Advice to Management

To anyone in management anywhere, encourage criticism and truth. Ask for it, encourage it, reward it. If people are even a little concerned they will not tell you what you need to hear, but only what they think you want to hear. It's easier to accept the compliments, pats on the back or laughter than to look deeper for sincere thoughts and expressions. People don't criticize a king holding an axe (or your paycheck). Compliment constantly in public, and criticize only in private.

    Pros

Good benefits, nice co-workers, great break room with free coffee & cokes. Lots of vendor-sponsored food events. Free Underground parking.

    Cons

Fear-based management style; gossiping They don't practice what they preach and the environment is oppressive. Level of hypocrisy is mind boggling.

    Advice to Management

Why give advice, it won't be heard or taken anyway.

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Swingle Collins & Associates full-time

    Pros

Stable job with good benefits. Bi-annual bonuses that should increase each year if you show good performance. Core CSRs have been there for years and are very knowledgeable of clients and coverages. Paid CE and they also host CE classes in house. If you work well with your team - you will do fine. Good relationships with the carriers which comes in very handy in the crunch.

    Cons

Office is comprised of several "cliques". Lacks formal training for the majority of positions. Management micro-manages and will reprimand you for being 5 minutes late (clock in system even though it's salary) but ignore the fact that you stay late by an hour. Most producers do not respect their CSR's time or abilities. Very much a "boys club" mentality amongst producers.

    Advice to Management

Potential to be a great place to work there. Deal with issues individually rather than make new office procedures that penalize all for the mistakes of few.

I have been working at Swingle Collins & Associates full-time

    Pros

Autonomy, flexible schedule, opportunity for professional development and community involvement, high earning potential, residual income, no two days are the same, work-life balance, ability to compete on business since we have multiple carriers, establishing relationships with clients, educating them on insurance, helping people...and the list goes on.

    Cons

Hours can be long, the first 5 years is a grind, constantly on and plugged in

    Pros

    1. Company continues to make money and succeed. Owner is doing VERY well. Top sellers known as "Producers" are as well. That group are the only ones with the ( tiny) offices.
    2. Covered parking in garage.
    3. People who don't know any better stay for years. They even believe it's a great place to work.

    Cons

Door control cards time every bathroom trip, every time in and out of the office suite. Must use a time card system like your first job at ... No place to EVER make a personal phone call, everyone is in a cubicle, not even a conference room to use; even the stairwell is locked except for emergencies. PTO is strongly discouraged. Very Stepford Wives place to work. I lasted almost 4 years. Too stifling, your every move is under surveillance! They have cameras throughout the office. The building itself has no place to walk, outside space to enjoy, etc. Either drive away for lunch or be in the awkward lunchroom space filled with everyone face-down in their phones not having any conversation. So glad I'm onto a far better opportunity since having the good sense to leave there!

    Advice to Management

Trust those who work for you. Lighten up the non-standard strictness of this place.
