I have been working at Swiss Re full-time

    Pros

401 K, working from home policy, global company

    Cons

Need better planning in tasks to be completed within a reporting period and better planning in workload. Sometimes this job could be very stressful. e.g. work at almost every night and every weekend for continuous 6 weeks.

Sometimes feel like, engineers are tools. The only feature required is 'easy to use' and be able to use whenever needed.

    Advice to Management

The higher the position, the more responsibilities should come with that position. Sometimes when issue happens, no one from mangement team is out there to make sure the issue is resolved.

I have been working at Swiss Re full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Excellent benefits and exceptional 401k.
Flexible work environment. Truly own the way your work!
A leader in saving energy. Truly a go green firm.

    Cons

Swiss Re is suppose to be a leader in the industry, but they certainly don't show it. Senior leadership says to "own your career" but in reality they pick who they choose to advance. There is no career opportunity for millennials. HR is awful! They know nothing about benefits.

    Advice to Management

1/4 of the Baby Boomer generation is retiring in 2018. Start walking the walking and promote from within. Grow your pipeline of talent, and stops looking to hire externally first. It's a lame excuse to say we are all to "Swiss", I'm American. Stop using the excuse to grow your pipeline, "well market conditions are awful right now." Market conditions will never be ideal. Start taking ownership and be a leader of change in this industry!

I have been working at Swiss Re full-time

    Pros

Great fleixiblity and benefits for all levels of employee.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Make sure management is trained well or ready for the job, just calling someone a manager does not make them one.

I have been working at Swiss Re full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits as a whole are good
    The 401K match is excellent
There is a cafeteria and a Fitness Center at the current location
    Positive, friendly culture

    Cons

Several jobs have been outsourced to India, Slovakia and Mexico over the last few years
Several of the people let go were long-time, loyal employees who were in their 50's
The office in Overland Park will relocate sometime in 2018
Rumor has it that the OP office is moving to downtown KC, where very few employees actually want to go
We will most likely be losing the cafeteria and Fitness Center
Senior Management encourages employees to view their career as latticework (horizontal moves) but in reality it's very difficult to move to a different department
Upper management has a very Euro-centric view and is unopen to suggestions from US counterparts

    Advice to Management

Cheaper doesn't always mean better. You've let go of employees in the US who were experienced, highly educated and talented and replaced them with inexperienced, poorly educated people from 3rd world countries. Sure, you'll save a buck or two in the short-term but I highly doubt it's the right move over the long-term.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Swiss Re full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

401K match better than other companies
    Overall benefits package is average

    Cons

Inexperienced and ineffective management. Promises for full training and on-boarding to sweeten the job offer; stuck into a dark corner with no direction, no training, little to no communication. Highly questionable hiring/review/termination practices. Management more concerned with hiring buddies from past companies versus talent equipped to get the job done.

    Advice to Management

Determine the actual job requirements before offering to experienced industry personnel. Eliminate the ambiguous job responsibilities. Value experienced people. Teach managers what a "project team" is.

I have been working at Swiss Re full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, 401K match, "most" people are good to work with

    Cons

High stress, high demanding job & company. Global company so have to be available at all hours of the day. Tight deadlines. Not a lot of good leadership. A few great leaders and the rest are mediocre. Multiple projects and constantly changing the organizational structure.

    Advice to Management

Properly staff so you don't kill your employees by making them work so much with such tight deadlines. Limited career options for those not in Zurich. Broaden your talent pool by being open to those in other locations. If didn't waste so much money and wouldn't need to do so much off-shoring.
