I have been working at Swiss Re full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A professional company, top of class. Good benefits, facilities and staff events, supports charity of the year, has a sports and social club. Also promotes personal development and growth and there's many career opportunities within the organisation if you're happy to travel. New office spaces promotes collaboration and flexible working which is nice.

    Cons

Global company, has a matrix/model. Often slow to implement and manage change due to complexity. Zurich centralised which can mean longer working hours to fit their hours, no overtime is paid to UK employees which can cause a challenge with work and life balance.

    Advice to Management

Recognise and reward global team members based outside of zürich at associate and assistant vice president level who work longer hours to fit Zurich and other regional timezones to support key strategic projects for the group.

I worked at Swiss Re full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In terms of financial benefits, the firm is focused on providing a decent overall package. The size of the company makes it a stable environment. And if you want a career in the financial sector they are well known.

    Cons

The area of the business I worked in was subject to frequent adjustment and change. Due to the complexity of the business, you do have to be adaptable and ready for regular change. It's really up to each individual to decide whether this would suit their character, before applying for any career role.

    Advice to Management

During my employment, there were regular meetings, where higher level management shared their future business plans with all employees (throughout the business). But because of the overall size of Swiss Re, often the talk would be about areas of the business that lower level employees were not really involved in. My advice would be to tailor the meeting content for the area of the business you are talking to at that time.

Felt bullied by the manager, training completed within 3 weeks then expected to be fully competent on the phones.

    Advice to Management

Extend the training and don't rush people to get them into the phones.

    Pros

    Salary
    Compensation and Benefits
    Shifts Are Flexible
    Clean Working Enviroment
    Decent Training

    Cons

    Attitude
    Communication
    No Progression
    Lack of Teamwork
    Managers Do Not Care

    Advice to Management

Work to create a better working enviroment and to make sure that the attitude amongst the business is posistive. Many of the staff bully newer members of staff and pass all blame on to them. There is no reason to attempt to progress as there are no opportunities ahead of you.

I worked at Swiss Re full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good salary
    Good work/life balance
    Clean, modern office

    Cons

Some team leaders are not competent to undertake a leadership role.
Staff members who takes the chair from your desk and not return it is frustrating. Going into work earlier every morning on playing 'hunt the chair' is ridiculous.
Too much gossip and weird people work there. Glad I left and have nothing to do with them!!

    Advice to Management

Employ more competent Team Leaders who don't buckle under pressure so they set an example to their teams.
It's not necessary to walk past your staff and not even acknowledge their existence. After all, we're all human and rely on each other to get a good job done in a pleasant working environment. Lead by example.
Treat your staff better then staff turnover wouldn't be so high.

I worked at Swiss Re full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent training, pleasant environment, great colleagues, career opportunities, city centre location, excellent pension scheme, fairly flexible hours, overtime available, decent pay

    Cons

Boring, repetitive work, too target driven, obsession with figures and abbreviations and acronyms, too much corporate bull, no feeling of being valued or appreciated

    Advice to Management

Cut down on the corporate bull ; make staff feel you are lucky to have them and not vice versa ; build in variety and intellectual challenge
