    Pros

There were days when the company was not acquired, those used to be golden days.
Each team was considered equally important. The focus was merely in achieving best product quality

    Cons

Senior management does not consider all teams as equal. There is a heavy bias on core team/product at the expense of overlooking activities by non-core team.

    Advice to Management

Engineers consider work as worship no work is good or bad to them, same feeling should be honored by the management, they should treat all teams/groups with equal respect.

I worked at Sybase as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Access to bleeding edge technologies
    - Opportunity to learn new skills
    - Able to work with the most talented people in the industry

I have been working at Sybase full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good work culture.
    Not much stress.
Some of the teams do good work.
Good for people who want to have personal/family time in life.

    Cons

There are some teams which have terrible politics. Some other teams hire incompetent rowdies as contractors and they ruin the work culture on the floor. Nepotism is rampant. Some of the senior management has moved out in recent times. I see that the ship has lost steam.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the vertical gap between higher management and employees. Get rid of hush-hush culture and bring in openness.

I have been working at Sybase full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work culture and flat organisation structure. All technical manager - no people's manager, after SAP acquisition. Managers know what they are putting on developers. Great work life balance.

    Great learning opportunities.

Offer good platforms for employees to put forward their innovative ideas off their daily work items.

    Cons

Decent pay/compensation/benefits, could do much better in this aspect (in comparison to other leaders in software industries)

After SAP acquisition, it tries to adopt the start-up culture, but some legacy processes are still hindrance to that.

Sometimes you might feel that what you're doing in not really aligned to what SAP is currently focusing on.

    Advice to Management

Fresh college graduates are not attracted to work here, probably because people know so less about the company. Need to put some effort on the PR front.

Management needs a better approach to improve work life balance of employees. They also need to consider future growth opportunites which have to be improved.

    Pros

    - They adopt trending technologies and software development practices
    - Nice employees, 9-5 gig
    - Reasonable expectations

    Cons

    - Mediocrity of a large organization that requires a bunch of people to sign off on something before it becomes real

    Advice to Management

Try and find a way to entice junior software developers to be great engineers, and really be disruptive in terms of product development and growth
