I worked at Symantec (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Symantec isn't 'set in its way'. There are a lot of processes but it's constantly evolving. It's nowhere near as hierarchical or process-oriented as many others. I was with Symantec for 10+ years, through the merger with Veritas, through the split out with Veritas. Overall my time there was good.

    Cons

Symantec changes so much and so often that as an employee you'll easily spend 30-40% of your time on change management. Time that would have been better spent on customers/ product development. Lack of continued focus is an issue.
For a female employee expect less career dev opportunities than that of men, and lower salary. Very much in line with the industry as a whole.
I was with Symantec for 10+ years, and in my 4th month of pregnancy, I was RIF'd. I'd just been promoted, had a fantastic pay increase a few months earlier. Then I let my manager know I'm pregnant and 30 days later I'm RIF'd. I was told it was a coincidence. All I'm saying is - if you plan to start a family, this may not be the best choice.
