I worked at Symantec (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked in a great team, lots of legacy smart, capable and collaborative people with integrity.

    Cons

Legacy is the key word. New leadership lacks integrity, doesn’t seek collaboration, and doesn’t value the tremendous talent in the company. I voted with my feet - so many capable people did not get a vote despite years of committed service.

    Advice to Management

Leave and let real leaders with integrity bring the company back to greatness (with noted « legacy » exceptions that have stuck it out for the greater good -,they must stay!). This company has too great a mission to fail.

I worked at Symantec full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people in general. Nice on site cafe (Mountain View Campus). Decent health care plans. Upwards opportunities for job development and mobility between business units.

    Cons

PTO plan is gone, now arranged time off with manager. Wellness planning embraced (Open floorplans, DIET everything in the vending machines). Lack of direction, still a collection of business units which do not work together and often conflict, worked through multiple groups where there was no true direction or leadership. 5(?) CEO's in 7 years.

    Advice to Management

Too many managers going in too many different directions.

    Pros

none anymore, used to be a great place to work

    Cons

So much is wrong here that it is hard to get in so I will give the highlights. As the tile says you are worth less to the company than a laptop. The word the like to use is "Fungible" what they mean is disposable. They forget that what they sell is support not so much the product as our product line is far from revolutionary and lags a bit from the competition.

    Advice to Management

Git rid of your top end dead weight that is killing this company while you have something left to save

I have been working at Symantec full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are great. Benefits are adequate.

    Cons

WOW - there isn't enough space to here to describe this place. Layoffs my friend, lots and lots of layoffs. Add to that the tendency for the right had to not know what the left hand is doing, that the company now has a new found culture of lying to it's employees, and a reduction in force is just a code word for "lets move jobs to our hometowns and churches in Utah and Arizona".......well, what more needs to be said.

This company will lie to you outright. There is no longer any integrity or security with Symantec A.K.A Lifelock/Blue Coat/Bain.

Thinking about taking a job here? Make sure you're ready to deal with zero security, zero inclusion, zero vision, zero growth, zero cohesion, and zero honesty.

Already working here? Get out before it's your turn to see just how down and dirty Symantec has become.

    Advice to Management

You're blowing it big time. People don't forget and word gets around in this line of work.

    Pros

    - Great talent to work with
    - Market comparable salaries
    - Gives diversified opportunities if you are open for it
    - Very dynamic management under Greg Clark's leadership

    Cons

    - Constant headcount reduction keeps inmates always under fear. Individuals performance is impact by this fear.
    - Hikes are more or less same for everyone. Outstanding performers are rewarded only marginally better than an average performer.
    - Too much cost cutting

    Advice to Management

    - Focus more on employee satisfaction and organic growth will fall in place.

    Pros

    Smart People
    Passionate folks
    Leader in field

    Cons

Lack of stability and too many layoffs
4 CEO's during my time there
    Poor pay compared to competitors

    Advice to Management

I doubt anyone from management will read this, but if they do - figure out how to distribute the wealth to hard working employees who are working from paycheck to paycheck versus doing layoff after layoff.

I worked at Symantec full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The campus is beautiful and large.

    Cons

Everyone at the company is a Liar and will beg you not to quit on them so they can lay you off at their convenience.
The location is far and you can not leave the area quickly
You must go through a ticket system for everything from the IT department to reaching out to the Payroll Manager to discuss a discrepancy on their paychecks.
You are a number that is it!

    Advice to Management

Execs are great, however they should really look over all Upper Management and Directors. You don't need 2 Directors in Support, there is so many duplicated jobs especially with all the out sourcing in Punae, India
If you are going to have an Ethics board then please have them really listen and take care of concerns and harassment in the workplace.
