    Pros

Decent salaries. Also, the worksite is very nice and well maintained. Located right by a VTA station.

    Cons

The company is struggling. Moral is low. No work/life balance. Constant lay offs, re-orgs and moves. Does not promote skill development or career growth. Behind on technology.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees, happy employees are more productive employees.

    Pros

Mixed bag when it comes to skills. Some groups are congenial, most others are not.

    Cons

Extremely political organization, esp. among sales and marketing VP's -- some of whom are not competent. It's all about them and not about the business.

    Advice to Management

Develop solid culture and infrastructure. Hire people who care about the business.

I worked at Symantec (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great medical and dental benefits.

    Cons

This is not a stable company. The company had three different CEOs in a four year time span. They also do not value education. Most managers running the company do not have a higher education. The company VERITAS which was sold off is even worse.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some people have positive intent and try to do business ethically and respectfully. Some employees are humorous and make it enjoyable. They have a good Employee Assistance Program and Vision Benefits.

    Cons

The company is unstable, turnover is constant in management and the executive level. Employees are treated like they are disposable because they are. The company does routine layoffs. Management needs to have a strategy and communicate it to the employees and lead.

    Advice to Management

Stop laying people off. Start training employees. Start showing accountability. Invest in employee culture. LEAD US.

I worked at Symantec (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I liked the people and the attitude to help the customer as a goal of our activities. The benefits were great as well.

    Cons

The downsides were mostly the separation of management (another locality), which made things to move slow at times, such as preparation for new updates and as ssuch

    Advice to Management

None in reality. Most IT places that I work, do not have as competitive chain of growth in IT as well and as in management channels. So what happens many good technical staff get pulled to management.

    Pros

    Former leadership
Culture was positive and it was a place you wanted to work.
    People were thoughtful and smart

Budgets would come and go month to month
Leadership changes -- bad hires at the highest level
Culture changed and it is not the same company
    Lack of direction or vision

    Advice to Management

Figure it out and take action. Employees aren't working, they are waiting for direction.

    Pros

Use to be good place until the unfortunate happens

    Cons

Too polical with racist tendency. Tree years ago it was a mix race and origin leadership. Today if you are not cacasian, your limit is either Sr. Manager or Sr. Principal. If you want to challenge it you are shown the door (under the cover of layoffs)

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the bigots and be Honorable and lawful.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Yet to find the career pros... Cafe is decent. Landscaping is nice. New gym at HQ is "meh" but the trainers are pretty good

    Cons

    Insane instability!!
    Zero growth potential
    Horrible and expensive benefits
Mind boggling political games at all levels
Most real talent here has left or trying to leave as fast as possible.
    HR is REALLY broken
Finance makes decisions for all other departments
    Illogical cost cutting
Good ol' boy system is rampant
Women are treat very poorly - it's so bad it's cliche
Anyone smart enough to effect change is laid off and replaced with ineffective, low cost "yes men"

    Advice to Management

Too bad you didn't notice your customers or employees. Maybe you should at your next company
