    Pros

Great company! I have had a really great experience working with Symetra so far. I have a great team and they have all been very helpful. I feel like I am challenged in my work and learning and developing new skills.

    Cons

Parking, kinda stinks having to pay to go to work (parking or bus) but that comes with working in a big city.

I have been working at Symetra full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have been at this company about six years and every year I've been able to seek out participating in new and interesting projects and opportunities.
    - Community involved company
    - Job Flexibility. Many managers promote work/life balance. Some jobs offer some work from home opportunities or hours that may shift early or late as needed by the employee
    - Most employees are excited and invested in their jobs
    - This company is on the rise and regularly diving into new territory, ideas are encouraged, and every year their seems to be more support and cooperation between divisions and departments.
    - GREAT management from the top down, I feel if I needed to I could email the CEO directly and get a response
    - HUGE benefits including education, Volunteering, Toastmasters, Blue fridays, and employee events

    Cons

    - NOT the most competitive vacation or sick leave plan
    - Parking is expensive and not free (However they offer great subsidized alternatives)

    Advice to Management

Keep driving for excellence, Keep listening, Keep evolving. I love working here!

I worked at Symetra full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Long-term, established company. Good Leadership. Growth opportunities. Quarterly all-employee meetings where you can learn current information and future plans and direction of the company. Overall, I worked with a great team. Loved relationship building with Employers, TPAs, Agents.

    Cons

Heavy workload, renewal and new business times 4th quarter & 2nd quarter can be challenging. True of all insurance industry positions. Must find ways to keep the work dynamic and avoid burn out from repetition.

    Advice to Management

Recognize, reward & retain valued long term employees.

I have been working at Symetra full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I am provided with autonomy in my work and enjoy working with my boss. A culture to promote from within on the sales desk. Compensation is good/above average for an internal wholesaler. Growing company that looks to continue establishing itself in the independent & broker dealer/wire distribution.

    Cons

A lack of track record promoting to the field (external wholesalers). People will generally start as sales support specialists prior to being promoted to internal wholesalers. This can take around a year for most people. CRM and other internal systems are not up-to-date despite living in a tech hub.

    Advice to Management

growing pains are difficult for any company. Better prospecting tools and advisor intelligence would help. Some of the systems are very outdated.

I have been working at Symetra full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Compensation is competitive
    - Eligible for performance bonus yearly
    - Sick Time and PTO are separate; you get 1 week of sick time at the beginning of the year
    - Bus pass is subsidized - comes right out of your paycheck ($10/paycheck - maybe)
    - Great on-boarding "welcome to Symetra" type training/orientation
    - Education reimbursement/assistance
    - Only have to work for 6 months in position before looking for other jobs internally
    - Ergonomic workstations (raising desks)
    - Multiple computer monitors
    - Accommodating to new hires (equipment, supplies, etc)
    - Lots of Symetra "swag" when you start; my cube is covered in it :)
    - Great location (convenient to walk to restaurants, grocery store, transit center, etc)
    - Wellness incentive program (discounts on insurance with participation)
    - All employees are issued a laptop -- no desktops
    - Secure building/elevator access/stair access w/ badge

    Cons

    - No training in my department for my specific job; learn as you go; procedures unclear/not in place
    - VERY small team (most of us are in CT)
    - Floundered for the first month or so, figuring out how to do my job
    - PTO accrual is slow
    - Disconnect from rest of company
    - Uncertainty about new Japan acquisition

    Advice to Management

Teams should be more integrated, and work together more inter-departmentally. Lots of talent here, just needs to be better utilized.
