I worked at Synacor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Talented people, smart, resourceful and reliable. Interesting projects to work on. The environment is relaxed and fun. Flexible with schedule, especially good for people who work remote.

    Cons

Upper management seems to be having a hard time to put the company in the right direction. Difficult to grow within the company if you work remote.

    Pros

Free health benefit plan available and good for most people
    25 cent vending machines
bi weekly Developer lunches to discuss various development related items
    casual dress code

    Cons

Unwillingness to look at technologies that have not been "Approved" by a tech council that is not representative of all of the groups of the company. People seem to get promoted at random. There are select people that have most of the knowledge of a specific product and instead of training more people, the one person just does everything because it "has to be done now".

    Advice to Management

Diversify the knowledge. Let the employee's know what is going on. Let people explore new technologies without forcing them to be "the synacor way".
