    Pros

Good culture, high integrity, and treat employees very well.

    Cons

As in any large company, sometime the focus on what is important (the customer) gets lost in the shuffle

I worked at Syngenta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits for location are better than other companies. Training and certification opportunities were supported.

    Cons

Way to much outsourcing of key functions. Also given responsibilities but no authority for change initiatives. Most jobs you are only a doer and expected to support bad business decisions. No career planning and opportunities for growth extremely limited.

    Advice to Management

Rethink your shared services business model that is with external business partners. This is costing way more than you realize in time, money, and quality. Stop reorganizing every year as a way to fix big problems you are failing to get to the root cause.

I worked at Syngenta full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good people, stellar past history of performance and fiscal responsibility

    Cons

It was a great company, but it is now owned by the Chinese government. All profits go towards the communist party. The company is also now highly leveraged with a near junk bond status rating and several billion dollar lawsuits pending. Cash liquidity will be an issue in the next year or so.

    Advice to Management

    Find new owners!

I worked at Syngenta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great employees to work with and collaborate with

    Cons

Driven by bottom line dollars, not in it for the long game.
Work life home life balance is way out of line and are replacing permanent employees with contractors sending the message you are easily replaced and anyone can come in to do your job.
Management oversight is poor with managers having free rein to cause issues to employees, lie and not be touched.
Culture and values are shared but not practiced, great on paper but not in practice.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect and look long term not just short term with hiring of contract staff. Ensure that management is held accountable and follow-up directly to employees when issues are presented about management to ensure that any management related issues come under investigation and are solved. If you do not do that you will continue to lose value employees and full-time staff with years of knowledge.

I worked at Syngenta full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee Wellness program is excellent. The Good Growth Plan is a wonderful concept if it is being practiced. To feed 3 billion people is a challenge and increasing biodiversity are values that I believed in so a thought it was a good match.

    Cons

The work load expected far exceed an individual capabilities working a 40 hour salary position. The safety and health aspects are a full time position in itself. Adding the responsibilities of Environmental Engineering for two plant locations is excessive. It is work place abuse. The use of 3rd party Contractors add to stress due to the requirement of constant training. The 3rd party employees realize that getting a full time position with Syngenta is not possible so they quit. The system manipulates people and is all designed for profit. The location you work at will decide whether or not you can complete your work. I was the 5th HSE Lead at a Washington location in 8 years. They burn people out quickly.

    Advice to Management

Hire more professionals to accomplish all the HSE expectations.

    Pros

Benefits, and 401k match are good.

    Cons

Too many middle managers, internal promotion is nonexistent and no work/life balance. I would not recommend.

I have been working at Syngenta full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive salary, great benefits! I work with people who really care about their jobs! Management has tried to create a transparent environment.

    Cons

Company chooses to focus on development opportunities for those already in leadership positions, but does not offer much for "lower level" employees (the individual contributors). Outsourcing of some business processes have reduced visibility and control. It has also made departments very lean and at times overworked. Hard to deviate from day-to-day job duties to work on potentially beneficial projects or getting ahead on anything.
