I worked at Syngenta (More than a year)

    Pros

    Some nice people, good atmosphere

    Cons

Management was awful, could not make a decision. I do not imagine the whole company was this way, maybe just that site.

    Pros

good benefits package, which included health insurance, 401K, pension, paid vacation.

    Cons

lots of internal politics that kept decisions from being made, slow approval processes, many layers of people involved in each project.

    Advice to Management

take care of the people that work hard for you and improve HR reach.

I have been working at Syngenta (More than a year)

    Pros

Great R&D pipeline, great benefits. The company not only is looking to continue to feed a larger portion of the world but to do it with as little harm to the environment as possible.

    Cons

Unless you are the 'popular' one, the 'chosen' one, or know the right person you are going no where in this company. You can be a invaluable employee but one person can in the 'chosen' group can tarnish your name and you are black balled for good. It is an environment built to mirror a teenage structure/reward system.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest focusing on the facts. Not focusing on who has been in the company the longest, who knows who, taking the word of an individual. People are being slotted in key roles that are no suited and are hurting the organization.

I have been working at Syngenta full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good vacation and flexible hours are the main reasons a lot of people have not left. Most colleagues are friendly and courteous.

    Cons

To get ahead in some departments here, it's not what you know. how hard you work or how well you do your job but how well you can play the con game. Favoritism is so apparent in some areas that morale is non existent! So so performers that are supervisor"s favorites. are given more opportunities and promoted over more competent and harder workers. Salaries for technical positions are not competitive with other chemical companies. This has resulted in good employees who are able to relocate, leaving the company.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to listen to their subordinates. Believe it or not, we actually know something and have many valuable ideas and suggestions!

I worked at Syngenta full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome people to work with, good benefits.

    Cons

No long-term strategy, initiatives change constantly, as do safety initiatives, software tools, expectations and company organization. People don't seem to matter much to upper management, there are frequent layoffs as changes occur and there is no strategic direction (or if there is, it's not communicated well to anyone outside the board room). The constant change creates a lot of extra work and cornfusion. Oops, I meant confusion. Salaried employees should expect to work 60+ hours per week in Hawaii, maybe elsewhere as well.

    Advice to Management

Determine priorities and get all leadership on board. There seemed to be warring factions at the project management level, which turns into a fight for resources and creates non-productive competition at lower levels. Priorities should be known and consistent through all levels of the company.

I have been working at Syngenta full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people that work at Syngenta are, for the most part, very pleasant and professional. They care about doing a good job and work very hard to achieve all of the goals they are given.

    Cons

Employees are expected to work on large projects as well as their "day jobs". IT staff including Business Analysts have been outsourced and the business experts wind up doing the job of the Business Analyst because knowledge transfer has not happened. Key people are continually the "go to" employees for all of this type of work.

    Pros

A few fantastic managers and intelligent people who make the environment tolerable.

    Cons

Definitely who you know that counts here. There are still people here with little or no education who have been here forever and are power hungry; they are ill equipped to handle change or manage anything, let alone other people who are educated and intelligent.

    Advice to Management

Interview and review employees and get rid of the dead weight, if you really want to save money. These people stand up for each other; there are people here that couldn't hold a job anywhere else, if they functioned the way they do here.

I worked at Syngenta full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The coffee machine. Benefits are nice. Good 401k match and a deferred compensation plan, too.

    Cons

The company is convinced it can drive innovation by cutting research spending significantly. Go figure.

    Pros

    Pay and benefits are ok..

    Cons

Unorganized, does not care for anyone not in an office.

    Advice to Management

Don't hire someone, then decide to downsize and remove the job six months later. It's bad morale and bad for business.
