I have been working at Syniverse

    Pros

Syniverse is a great place to work. Although I have been here for a short amount of time, I was able to see the old Syniverse and the new. I am very excited about where Syniverse is going and we have a great team leading the way.

    Cons

    Nothing at the moment.

I have been working at Syniverse full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

People are dedicated and professional. The senior leadership is very good despite big challenges. It looks like they may finally become financially stable.

    Cons

The place is chaotic and hours are extraordinary/ 50+ hours per week is often not enough to stay current. They have frequent and large lay-offs (15%) at year end, then gradually rehire to the same level.

    Advice to Management

Management continues to do well keeping everyone informed and the morale surprisingly high given the corporate realities.

Listen to your people and your customers.

I have been working at Syniverse full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Aggressively competitive pay rates and benefits. Quite a few good employees. Several good managers remaining. Flexible work environment, for the most part, but not able to schedule regular weekly days to work-from-home. Lots of great sounding values.

    Cons

Management "yes"-men. New open office environment (dubbed a failure over 5 years ago). Buzzword-centric. Hyperfocused on sales and marketing, especially of nonexistent solutions given radical timelines and elusive requirements, with core design shifts occurring across more features than exist resources to implement them. Either upper management doesn't listen to their senior employees or management isn't relaying...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your senior engineers. They aren't being a squeaky wheel for no reason. If a lower manager never pushes back, there's a problem with the "yes"-man attitude. If, as management/upper you get annoyed by the squeaky wheels or feel compelled to always say "yes" and never push back, you are a problem manager. Stop with requiring the buzzword technology, especially if no one yet understands it well enough to come...

I worked at Syniverse full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Bright people, great comraderi and leader in what they do

    Cons

Too many projects. As a result, sometimes cut corners.

I have been working at Syniverse full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

The company was once a good place to work.

    Cons

CEO / Management is trying to save money by laying off workers, cutting benefits / perks, bonuses and well earned salary to pay off debt and give large bonuses to a few.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to employees that doe the real work and not the few executive buying Teslas and other expensive vehicles.

I worked at Syniverse full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

We had a great team where dev, PM, and QA worked harmoniously to strive for utmost quality in products. Dedication and passion were second to none

    Cons

Change of CEO every two year or so to help with attrition. Management team had no clue how much work was involved and re-prioritize goals and objectives around at their own pleasure.

    Advice to Management

When goals are set initially, have check points in place to see if every project team does them. If no one does them, then you know you are talking fluff and the goals are lofty and unreachable.

I have been working at Syniverse full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Syniverse is constantly evaluating new and current lines of business. Since it is a relatively small company, it is easy to reach out successfully to others. The opportunity to be recognized by your peers is easy and appreciated.

    Cons

Since it is a relatively small company, the great talent and years of experience is also subject to the bottom line. When people are let go due to staff reduction it almost seems personal.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Reimagine the Possibilities.

I worked at Syniverse full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Not too many honestly besides good benefits and their team is so nice to work with.

    Cons

I would not recommend any part of Syniverse to a friend. Awful work life balance right now! The CEO does not want anyone to work from home and forced people back into the office! Horrible as the company is in the Telecom/Tech industry! They did layoffs recently and no yearly extra compensation for the teams. Management works you to death as they travel around. Very tough to get time off approved. Also, there really is...

    Advice to Management

My advice if this is read is to train your employees instead of being reactive to be proactive. Allow enoyees to work remotely instead of bringing people back into the offices. It's the opposite of a progressive work life balance culture. Let employees grow and develop instead of creating silos in teams.

I worked at Syniverse full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

There is plenty of information in the public domain about this company to make an informed decision whether to take employment here or become a customer. If you do your homework before you decide to associate with this company, you will at least know what to look out for in the event you are duped by the whitewashing and lies that HR and Sales team will tell you. In this hot job market, it is particularly important...

    Cons

Syniverse is in a systematic decline during this great economic recovery period (check their consistently declining earnings and regular layoff's cycle). Just imagine what will happen when things do slow down. This place is stuck in the 80's and 90's. Given their mountain of debt and declining revenue, there is no money/investment for innovation. The technical debt associated with current products and solutions is much...

    Advice to Management

Well, the popular advice on this forum is to sell the company. But you know its is tough to find someone dumb enough to buy-right? Given that there is really nothing to buy here other than a mountain of debt (real and technical), its time to take a haircut and end this miserable charade. It's obvious that it would be easier for the potential Buyer to just use those dollars to market and woo customers away as they...
