    I worked at Synopsys full-time

    Pros

Solid company with solid results. Co CEOs get along well and are nice.

    Cons

If you work under current CFO you better have thick skin because he's MEAN! I think mean is an understatement. They guy thinks he's God and thinks he can do ANYTHING he wants. Very unstable environment with finance directors constantly fulfilling their hidden agendas. Never know when u're next in the "firing list". They always have a target, at least 1 person per year. CFO and company fire people without reason and tenure & hard work don't matter. Never know when you are next. HR team is there to protect the company NOT the employees.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of that CFO....yeah he executes but he has no people skills. He doesn't motivate, he doesn't inspire....
Stop abusing the "at will" policy. Workers are HUMAN not just a number!!

    Pros

No-nonsense company, very solid understanding of its engineering challenges. Mostly good and well-educated peers and managers.

    Cons

A little conservative and the technology is somewhat lags behind the hype.

    Pros

Interesting and varied work. Reasonable compensation.
The customers base is a who's-who of the electronics business.
It's a great way to gain exposure to a number of different areas of expertise.
If you demonstrate competence and good work ethic, you will generally be rewarded.

    Cons

No cons that are unique to Synopsys.
The people that you work are varied in terms of talent and capabilities,
in both a positive and negative sense. Some managers are good, others not so good.
Company politics sometimes gets in the way of things, but that's life in a big company.

I worked at Synopsys (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company is stable and is growing fast. Leader in its industry and yearly bonus has been consistent. Good work/life balance most of the time. People are nice and friendly.

    Cons

Conservative company, working remotely is OK but need justification each time. 5 plu mergers and acquisitions per year. Projects move slowly and have to rely on the marketability of your manager to move it forward, get resource and funding.

    Advice to Management

Fragmented systems and groups, at least in IT. Gradually moving toward cloud computing and opening teams to share ideas and not to segregate and compete internally.

I worked at Synopsys (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company with some fantastic people who have worked there virtually their entire adult lives. The Co-CEOs are legends and are making some interesting moves to grow the company in the face of dwindling customer base and market consolidation. It's the dominant EDA player and upstart in SW security.

    Cons

Very consensus and process driven and political so takes long to get things done - not at all agile. Consolidating EDA industry makes SNPS #1 (and it knows it), but semiconductor customer base is shrinking. Biggest fish in the draining EDA pond. Needs new customers...

    Advice to Management

Management is doing a fantastic job growing the business in areas with growth, while maintaining dominance in key areas of EDA...

    Cons

They make good tools for software development, but they internally have hard time managing software lifecycle.
