I worked at Syntel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent colleagues and great working atmosphere. Most employees are empowered to take such actions as are necessary to ensure enhanced customer satisfaction. In specialized areas, the Company also has cachet and brand equity with many customers. Human Resources and other support organizations are usually very responsive to employees.

    Cons

The Company has for a while been dressed up to sell in the PE market. Consequentially there's not a great deal of ongoing investment in the employees of the company. Leadership is conscious of it and is therefore not the quickest to listen to employees and their aspirations.

    Advice to Management

Employees tend to vote with their feet rather than stay and work out their expectations with Leadership.

    Pros

The company is good. Some of the projects are also good. There are lot of opportunities to learn new technologies if you are interested but it depends which team you are part of .

    Cons

People who are hired in the US are not given given the promotions at all. Apparently, if the client manager does not increase the rate/hr, forget bout any raise.

    Pros

Great opportunity to learn and grow in the industry

    Cons

Not much direction as to where you'll end up location or department. You must be very flexible as a fresher and prepare for change at anytime. Decisions are abrupt and seem unprofessional when you're on the reviving end of company mistakes

    Advice to Management

Invest in R&D, shuffle leaders as their brains rust after sometime (Dont make them secure at one positions for years)

I worked at Syntel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * The pay and benefits are modest, but decent. This is a great starter job and after a years' probation, the pay is competitive (campus hires start at 50k, get bumped to 57k in a year).
    * They will train you and there will be a project for you. It will require a lot of moving but you get to see the country. If there is no project for you, they will keep paying you "on the bench". You will then, provided there is not much turmoil, be allowed to stay on bench for about 6 months and perhaps a year.
    * They will always find a way to use you. Even if you are sent to a project that is behind and they are looking for veteran super stars, they will make you into a Sys Admin and will slowly work you into a hard technical position. You just have to be patient.
*The training accommodations are reasonable. You stay in a motel with a kitchenette and get to train in a nice hotel. Very easy to navigate.

    Cons

    * They may act as if there is a plan when there is no plan. You think you will be staying in Phoenix and then move you to Kansas City just as you were getting used to living in Phoenix. There has been improvements with this process lately.
    * If your project ends early and the company has further projects, you will basically be indefinitely suspended but with pay. Its called a "bench" program. This is traditional practice in large Indian Consultant firms. Many US firms just tell you to get Unemployment while they continue to pay for your insurance. It's very hard not to worry during this time.
    * It could take up to six months to get your reimbursements back. from moving. Make sure you ask plenty of questions during each relocation and get as many things in writing as possible.
    * They sometimes can throw you to the wolves at a new project and you might be working 60 hour weeks until you are finally able to put out the fire or they move you on to something easier.
*As a campus hire, they might send you back to the same project if they bench you too early and many companies won't allow that.

    Advice to Management

When you act like a plan when there is no plan, it makes people feel like they can't trust you. Maybe that is better than the alternative.
