I have been working at Syntel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A good company to gain initial experience in variety of areas.
Very less end to end development project but lot of staff augmentation projects which give immense opportunity for a business analyst profile.
    Lot of onsite opportunities

    Cons

After few years of experience you outgrow and become over mature to organization policies and culture. Seems that the organization and people do not evolve with time.
Growth is very difficult for a business analyst unless career is oriented towards moving to delivery/project management.
Taking advantage of people who travel on H1B visa by giving them less salary, less benefits as compared to their US peers. That is why they have a high attrition rate. They had a bond of Rs. 250000 for any employee who travels to the US but now it has been increased to Rs. 500000. People holding H1B and joining Syntel beware.
Anyone can become anything in Syntel. Even a person who does not have enough business knowledge, business sense and cannot speak proper english can get promoted and get in to management level role
Policies are not employee friendly and still very less people raise their voice
    Lack of professional culture
Appraisal system is a joke as ratings get normalized if you are not in the good books of the manager. Even if there is a good rating there is no salary increase for onsite people
Benefits are a joke for people travelling onsite from India. Even though employees pay for the premium coverage is not good.

    Advice to Management

Increasing bond amount without improving policies will only cause weak people to travel. If a strong candidate travels to the US, he will move out despite of the bond amount
Improve the appraisal system by implementing 360 degree appraisal for anyone who is involved in a managerial role
If you focus too much on the operating margins then forget about the topline growth

    Advice to Management

Management should devote time and efforts to plan and execute some good work on the ground.

    Pros

They have processes defined for everything but they bend the processes for themselves or the closed ones.

    Cons

    Not employee friendly
They bend the processes for few indiciduals as per the convenience.
Leadership team lacks skills big time.

    Advice to Management

Kindly improve your skills to have a better work force and work environment.

I have been working at Syntel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good for freshers / beginners as a stepping stone. They got big clients in US and UK at various locations. Okay work culture.

    Cons

Poor compensation, benefits, and employee care. Less opportunity for growth. They expect employees to work 24 hrs. day and night, offshore/onshore calls, but no overtime payment. No work/life balance. They don't reimburse for training. Internal training's are just for name sake and may not help your career growth.

    Advice to Management

You must improve the employee care and benefits.

I worked at Syntel as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are a software developer, Syntel would be a good fit,

    Cons

When my placement at a company where I was consulting expired, Syntel made ittle effort to find a new position for me in the Chicago area. Instead of looking for new clients and opportunities in the 3rd largest city in the US, they wanted me to relocate to Iowa or Minnesota. At the same time I was being contacted by several other consulting firms with BA positions in the Chicago area, so it wasn't like there was nothing out there. So I left Syntel and joined another firm.

    Advice to Management

Syntel is known for supplying developers and even project managers as consultants and has very few Business Analyssts. Syntel needs to pursue Business Analyst opportunities more aggressively.

I worked at Syntel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Only thing I would say that they provide good salary to US hires (May be because of their small brands and people need something to override that)

    Cons

    It is full of Cons
    1. Unprofessional staffs
    2. Poor work culture
    3. Unfriendly employee policy
    4. HR does false promises then ask for proof while do the claim of that. Take everything in writing
    5. Frequent relocation and that too with a poor relocation benefit. If you are a family person I STRONGLY advise not to join this company. I am having a small kid and they relocated me 3 times with in a year. The reason is they don't have grip to clients since the Senior management like client relationship managers are worthless. Therefore they only get small projects and then you got to relocate.
    6. No value of your voice. If you speak logically and managers will try to prove their superiority by imposing their decision on you without hearing your points.
    7. Client doesn't have any respect for a SYNTELLER. I saw a client speaking differently to SYNTEL folks and behave gentle with TCS folks. This happens because Senior management just enjoy their position and do not try to build strong relationship with clients. The bonding never created.

Until you are in a position to being jobless please do NOT join Syntel

    Advice to Management

Try to follow process properly. You claim yourself as CMMI V company and just showing during evaluation but indeed do not follow it. You do not have a proper resignation system. Your application doesn't function properly therefore things are getting controlled manually and creating issues/confusions.

Do a continuous leadership awareness program to your worthless managers and make them understand what professionalism is. Off course you can implement this if you have sufficient professional in your company. I don't think you have.

Try to set a feasible target in all level. You have set a target to become 2billion in 2015.
A company which established in early 80s is not event a 1 billion today. how come you expect to be 2 billion by 2015?? Your target become a joke to every employee. This is not a sales firm that higher target achieve high result.

    Pros

You can work for their clients directly without being bothered.
    Nothing really stands out.

    Cons

They dont apply for your green card even though they commit. Net net they dont care for their employee's needs.
Work life balance is negative if you manage client relationship.
They dont increase the package annually. No sick leave.

    Advice to Management

They need to change medical insurance policy and need to start doing green card for their employees.
