I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Extremely valued culture that has been kept undiluted since the founder. -Everyone is very open and ready to answer questions and concerns. -SEI embodies true collaboration and rewards it. Feels like everyone is there for you. -Involvement in how the business runs and everyone is encouraged to be involved. -Ability to buy stock in the company. - You are compensated for time worked, not boxed into a salary that doesn't...

    Cons

-Not being a good fit for the culture would likely be stressful, since you may feel like the odd person out. The hiring process usually filters this issue out. -There is an expectation that you are involved beyond just delivering your project. That may not be for you.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing, the company has been built out well.

I worked at Systems Evolution full-time for less than a year

    Pros

All the staff is very hard working and very dedicated to the company. There are some very talented individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and deep experience.

    Cons

Brand Recognition is Poor - Very few people have ever heard of SEI even though other similar sized, similar style firms in the area are well known. Work is often Staff Augmentation - A surprising number of consultants are in the same role/assignment for 5+ years, thus basically functioning as staff augmentation. About a third of the contracts are temp-staff roles, not advice/ expertise/ consulting. Diversity -...

    Advice to Management

The culture needs to 'grow up' in line with the growth of the company. You have aspirations to grow, but that will require a more professional internal culture.

    Pros

Unlimited Opportunity! Systems Evolution Phoenix is a place I feel like all team members have a voice and all voices are equal. It is not often you find a company that understands how to grow, innovates and understands work-life balance. I am very thankful SEI reached out to me and knew who I was before even speaking with them on the phone. From my first of over seven interviews through today, I genuinely do feel like...

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The best thing about SEI is the amazing people that you work with on a regular basis. The interview process is grueling and ensures that only the smartest, most highly-motivated people get the opportunity to work in this company. For me it means my peers are some of the most impressive people I've ever encountered in my career. It gives me the opportunity to learn from them while also delivering incredible value with...

    Cons

The Dallas office is one of the smaller offices which really puts us in start-up mode. This is not a con for me, but could be for some people. The job requires a significant level of effort above and beyond client work to help grow the business. You have to be willing to put in the extra time.

    Advice to Management

Double down on sales. The Dallas market is huge and this office should grow quickly. Make this a priority. Also, continue to stand strong on your local consulting model. The ability to be a consultant but still eat dinner with my family is one of the best aspects of this job.

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

    Pros

After having my first baby a few years ago, I decided it was time to leave my job at a large consulting firm due to the travel requirements. I didn't want to leave the challenge and variety of consulting, however. After looking at several different internal consulting positions at local companies, a friend referred me to SEI. I had no idea that a local consulting model existed and was excited to learn that I could continue...

    Cons

As an employee owner, you are expected to contribute to the growth of the company outside of your billable client hours. In other words, there will be weeks that you're working more than 9-5. If you've ever worked at another consulting firm, this isn't a surprise. However, it feels completely different at SEI. The things you contribute to have real value to the business because the company's size and limited management...

    Pros

Let me start off by saying that I've been in the consulting world, both federal and commercial, in the DC Market for the past 12 years. I've worked for some of the larger players as well as some smaller organizations, and have therefore been exposed to a lot of different cultures, operating styles, etc.. Though I've only been with SEI for about a month now, I can honestly say that my experience has been top notch thus...

I worked at Systems Evolution full-time

    Pros

Awesome people, strong core values, employee owned company, flat org structure with a strong entrepreneurial vibe, very collaborative, and a very successful operating model.

    Cons

Boston was a well-established office when I arrived. I came from large consulting organizations with a well-defined professional development structure and I felt that the professional development growth path was more subjective at times.

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

    Pros

What you see in almost all of the reviews is true – the culture of consistency, commitment, and collaboration is front-and-center in everything we do, and SEI is exactly what it presents itself to be. I work with a great group of people who really are in it for the same reasons – to deliver for the client, to support each other and ensure each other’s success, and to grow the company in meaningful ways while maintaining...

    Cons

As many others have mentioned it’s not the place to be if you care about hierarchy or titles. And the client work may not always be the most glamorous; however, the reasons we are all part of this company is about more than just the project work we do, and the relationships we develop and maintain with each other and our clients are much more meaningful and fulfilling.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you’re doing, maintain the open communication and transparency we currently enjoy, and keep an eye on growth. Culture is at the center of why we’re all here, and there may be a limit to the growth an individual location can truly experience while still maintaining that culture.

Making a career move to SEI has been a breath of fresh air. I recently joined and all the great things I heard about SEI during the interview process are true. Great people that care about each other, collaborate together for the benefit of the client, serve the community together and have fun with each other. There is a reason SEI has been rated as one of the best places to work in each of the markets where they are...

    Pros

Company values, collaborative environment, ability to work across industries that you don't have experience while knowing there is a deep wellspring of talent willing and able to back you up, compensation model that is based on your actions and contributions to the growth of the company. The hiring processes are a double edged sword. They are very selective and so that means that you know you're getting grade-A talent,...

    Cons

There can be many off-hours meetings that go above and beyond a regular company, but they're spaced out enough to not be too engrossing. If you don't buy into the collaborative nature of the company, of collective value, you will not be happy here, full stop. I don't see that as a con, per se, but I do understand some of the negative reviews that have come up. You really have to be a great fit to move forward. ...
