I worked at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Every consultant has access to leadership, is supported by the entire company (anyone can reach out for help and have it, usually within the hour), is treated equally with a very compensation structure, has a seat at the decision table on day 1, and has the opportunity to share one's unique talents and passions to grow the business. The culture is one of family, the interview process is slow to allow relationships...

    Cons

I can't call the expectation to perform at client as well as support growing the organization to everyone's benefit a con, but it could be a consideration.

    Keep up the great work!

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time

      Pros

It’s only been a few months since I joined SEI, but it has been a great experience so far. SEI is a flat organization where employees are treated like family, are all equally accountable and are empowered to be owners. This when combined with a warm, welcoming and fun culture makes SEI a delight and motivates you to put your best foot forward always. SEIers are talented, humble and approachable. Though spread across...

The interview process may seem long (and SEI is working on bringing in efficiencies here). Having said that, the process is structured to give candidates an equal opportunity to interview SEI as well. From my experience, I got a good sense of the people I’ll be working with, which made my transition into SEI quite seamless.

      Advice to Management

SEI’s strategic anchors have served it well and should therefore be protected

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

      Pros

I initially became interested in SEI when I decided to get back into Consulting. I'd been in industry for a couple years and missed the fulfillment I got from making a real difference for my Clients. Through the interview process, I got to meet the entire Dallas team & was convinced that this was the right place for me. I'm having a great time at SEI and have enjoyed taking part in growing our Dallas presence....

      Cons

I have to agree with other reviews that describe SEI as an 'all hands on deck' environment. There is definitely an entrepreneurial / startup feel and you have to be comfortable with the associated ambiguity / willing to roll your sleeves up to get the job done. That said, all of this was clearly laid out & explained throughout the interview process. I came in knowing what...

      Pros

SEI is a great company... - No travel which is awesome for family life - Compensation is good for the hours and efforts you put in - The consultants are fairly nice

      Cons

...if you align it to reality - No matter what they tell you during the interview process, in reality all of the work is staff aug. It's a local model, and there are only so many strategy/sexy consulting gigs, which won't go to SEI because they don't have that kind of brand equity or known thought leadership anyways. - The reality is you will not get rich from working here....

      Advice to Management

It is a decent company, but please stop making it into what it is not. It will make everyone's life a lot easier. - Stop pushing solution selling since your business model can't support it. How do you expect to sell a solution when you don't have a bench to sell from? You hate bench time since all you care about is billable hours. Plus, the solution has to make sense (selling 5 PMs doesn't count) which you can't control...

      Pros

Love SEI and appreciate the lengthy recruiting process detailing exactly what I was signing up for along with the opportunity to meet a good variety of current employees before finalizing my decision. They have delivered on every promise - no BS here. Love the model, culture and people. Certainly not for everyone, but if it's for you it will quickly become apparent during the interview process and you’ll wonder what...

I worked at Systems Evolution full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

I struggled with putting such a low rating on SEI due to the great consultants that work for the company, the friendships I was able to establish, and the fun that I had with them while I worked there. SEI’s culture is truly a social one (but with that also comes consequences that are outlined in Con’s). They are truly some of the best consultants/professionals that I have come across. However, everything else about...

      Cons

Let me start off by saying that while at SEI, I was continually client billable and making money for our office. I was only on the bench once (unbillable) for a very short period of time. I never had a complaint about my work from clients and on more than one occasion was offered a full time role with a client if I left SEI. I say this as to not be viewed as a disgruntle past employee. These are genuine cons that...

      Advice to Management

This isn’t to management itself. This is to all the consultants (particularly ones that have stock ownership). Demand to the Board of Director that a cleaning out of management occur. If you don’t, at a minimum, be smart and jump ship while you can with your dignity. This truly was a great company when I started but the growing egos of the Managing Director’s on up as well as their “circle of friends” are destroying...

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

      Pros

The best thing about SEI is the amazing people that you work with on a regular basis. The interview process is grueling and ensures that only the smartest, most highly-motivated people get the opportunity to work in this company. For me it means my peers are some of the most impressive people I've ever encountered in my career. It gives me the opportunity to learn from them while also delivering incredible value with...

      Cons

The Dallas office is one of the smaller offices which really puts us in start-up mode. This is not a con for me, but could be for some people. The job requires a significant level of effort above and beyond client work to help grow the business. You have to be willing to put in the extra time.

      Advice to Management

Double down on sales. The Dallas market is huge and this office should grow quickly. Make this a priority. Also, continue to stand strong on your local consulting model. The ability to be a consultant but still eat dinner with my family is one of the best aspects of this job.

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Having been around for several years (and this not being my first job), I can say that this is a great place to work. However, like anywhere else, it's not the perfect place for every candidate. The employee owner model simply requires more of people than a lot of consulting roles or industry jobs tend to. Doing client work and going home isn't an option (or, at least, isn't encouraged, especially if you want to progress)....

      Cons

      - I think it's possible that people sign up with our model in theory, but when it comes to the day-to-day, it can be too much for some people to manage. Prioritization and multi-tasking are often an essential skillset to get done what we get done. Not everyone is up for that. - This is not the place for you if you want to do client work and go home. - This is not the place for you if you need constant praise (there...

      Pros

There are some great people that work at Systems Evolution and the employee owned flat model is an attraction.

      Cons

There is a huge difference in a company that encourages a fun environment and one that pushes alcohol and partying as part of your job responsibilities. They take you on an orientation trip that you are prepped for well in advance almost like an audition and you must perform. You also get to have one of the leaders dance on your lap on a party bus. Advice to Management

It is so sad to see the direction of this company that Dan worked so hard to build. It used to be about the work, collaboration and the community. Now it is about money- money- money. Stop opening new offices and support the teams you...

      Pros

In an employee-owned organization that thrives on collaboration and participation, SEI stands out with an amazing team of individuals who genuinely care about the organization they represent each day at our clients. Before discovering SEI, I thought all consulting was a travel-intensive line of work…not the case at SEI where it is a local consulting model. Tough to think of any, but finding the right people to fit the seasoned consultant role who also have an entrepreneurial mindset can be a challenge. The gauntlet process is rigorous for a reason!
