I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Get to be a consultant that delivers but can also be advisory, get to control my definition of work/life balance and get to be part of a collaborative & fun team trying to grow our business together!

    Cons

There are no direct Cons from my perspective but there are differences in our model versus other consulting organizations that can take some time to understand (and appreciate).

    Advice to Management

While it's great to try new things that we may not have attempted before, we must stay true to who we are as an organization and understand that the steady, sustained growth will serve us best (as it has for the last 26 years).

I worked at Systems Evolution full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I was a proud SEI consultant for 7+ years. I was no stranger to consulting prior to joining and quickly realized that SEI was a special place. Consultants are very fairly compensated, offered opportunities to engage / help drive the business and have a good work/life balance. Like most things in life, you get out of SEI what you put into it. It's not a place for those looking to punch-in and punch-out. It's entrepreneurial...

    Pros

Unlimited Opportunity! Systems Evolution Phoenix is a place I feel like all team members have a voice and all voices are equal. It is not often you find a company that understands how to grow, innovates and understands work-life balance. I am very thankful SEI reached out to me and knew who I was before even speaking with them on the phone. From my first of over seven interviews through today, I genuinely do feel like...

I worked at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Culture is a priority. Having previously worked for a bank and now a larger consulting firm, it's clear that SEI is doing something right by ensuring the people they employ are decent human beings. It's difficult to find a company that hires for substance and not numbers, especially in the consulting world. The people are what makes SEI a great place to work and a company I wish I hadn't had to leave. -At a larger company,...

    Cons

-It can be messy. SEI is small and that means it's all hands on deck and everyone is expected to help out where they can. If you like a lot of structure and have a "that's not my job" attitude - you won't be happy here. -Pay was okay.. not great (benefits were good). For me, the culture makes up for the lower salary.

    Advice to Management

Money and growth is nothing if you have to sacrifice culture and your people. Don't forget what makes SEI special.

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time

    Pros

Before working at SEI I had a fairly similar role to the work I've been doing at my client. I drove large-scale programs from start to finish. I love the challenge of bringing to life a revenue driving initiative, saving a failing project, and bringing teams together to get the impossible over the finish line. In the past, it was always enough for me. What I didn't anticipate when joining SEI, was how all the...

    Cons

It is not easy to build a business and that is what you're expected to do. People often hear "local model" and they think work/life balance, but your career is a big part of life here. As an Employee Owner you are expected to help shape the business and define the market - and that's hard- but if it's for you, like it is for me, it's also satisfying as hell.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing- putting people first.

      Pros

A lot of awesome people and good work/life balance.

      Cons

Drinking, harassment, inappropriate “jokes”, you have to laugh off for THEIR comfort - need a thick skin or it will get to you.

      Advice to Management

It starts at the top (current and former CEO, MDs). Think about how you treat women employees and do better.

I worked at Systems Evolution full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

I struggled with putting such a low rating on SEI due to the great consultants that work for the company, the friendships I was able to establish, and the fun that I had with them while I worked there. SEI’s culture is truly a social one (but with that also comes consequences that are outlined in Con’s). They are truly some of the best consultants/professionals that I have come across. However, everything else about...

      Cons

Let me start off by saying that while at SEI, I was continually client billable and making money for our office. I was only on the bench once (unbillable) for a very short period of time. I never had a complaint about my work from clients and on more than one occasion was offered a full time role with a client if I left SEI. I say this as to not be viewed as a disgruntle past employee. These are genuine cons that...

      Advice to Management

This isn’t to management itself. This is to all the consultants (particularly ones that have stock ownership). Demand to the Board of Director that a cleaning out of management occur. If you don’t, at a minimum, be smart and jump ship while you can with your dignity. This truly was a great company when I started but the growing egos of the Managing Director’s on up as well as their “circle of friends” are destroying...

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

      Pros

The best thing about SEI is the amazing people that you work with on a regular basis. The interview process is grueling and ensures that only the smartest, most highly-motivated people get the opportunity to work in this company. For me it means my peers are some of the most impressive people I've ever encountered in my career. It gives me the opportunity to learn from them while also delivering incredible value with...

      Cons

The Dallas office is one of the smaller offices which really puts us in start-up mode. This is not a con for me, but could be for some people. The job requires a significant level of effort above and beyond client work to help grow the business. You have to be willing to put in the extra time.

      Advice to Management

Double down on sales. The Dallas market is huge and this office should grow quickly. Make this a priority. Also, continue to stand strong on your local consulting model. The ability to be a consultant but still eat dinner with my family is one of the best aspects of this job.

      Pros

Potential for great culture, strong focus on work life balance, so many great people.

      Cons

The Cincinnati office has changed over the past couple years since I joined. We advertise an open collaborative environment but many recent discussions (or lack thereof) seem to identify people unwilling to listen. Started off as an awesome place to work and have seen some ugly and petty stuff with some really good employees who have left over the past 18 months. Very cliquey of late. New internal communication where...

      Advice to Management

Get back to our roots. Renewed focus on trust, especially internally. Be a good friend and keep an open mind. Start with the MD as he runs the show and drives the behavior - great guy but is quick to sour on people.

I have been working at Systems Evolution full-time for more than a year

      Pros

In an employee-owned organization that thrives on collaboration and participation, SEI stands out with an amazing team of individuals who genuinely care about the organization they represent each day at our clients. Before discovering SEI, I thought all consulting was a travel-intensive line of work…not the case at SEI where it is a local consulting model. From the start when I heard about and participated in the ‘gauntlet’...

      Cons

Tough to think of any, but finding the right people to fit the seasoned consultant role who also have an entrepreneurial mindset can be a challenge. The gauntlet process is rigorous for a reason!

      Advice to Management

Continue to be actively engaged in each office and guard the culture.
