I have been working at T-Mobile (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I have had great managers who are supportive and allow for professional autonomy. The company is generous and generally offers great work life balance and good benefits.

    Cons

While good managers exist, so do the bad. This isn't a T-Mobile specific problem where politics and self-aggrandizing managers stand out and ruin the workplace environment for everyone around them. However, this does exist. It also takes a long time to implement efficiencies and change. In certain organizations, it may take a long time for leadership to acknowledge when promotions are needed (months to over a year). This is disparaging to hard workers and will contribute to turn over.

I have been working at T-Mobile full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

T-Mobile offers excellent and affordable benefits, as well as top-of-the-industry compensation, including stock options and annual stock grants. More than its competitors, T-Mobile is known for its ability to retain talent, and has many long-tenured and highly experienced engineers on staff.

    Cons

The organizational culture is highly mechanistic, and individual contributors have little authority to determine the direction of projects. Leadership determines what should be done, management determines who should do it, and engineers are only left to figure how it can be accomplished. This minimizes the ability of individuals to have a substantial impact on business operations.

    Advice to Management

Work culture is the biggest weakness within the T-Mobile engineering organization. Decreasing the authoritative distance between managers and engineers and observing many of the industry practices of large IT and financial institutions are good places to begin reform.

    I worked at T-Mobile full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Commission and plan discount is awesome. Make as much as you want to.

    Cons

Never a set schedule. Moving up was a constant batter because you are waiting around for your manager to take action. Requesting time off was always hard. Can't take off during holidays even for personal reasons. Favoritism is a factor. Things can be approved for one person but not another. Very stressful when the months are slow.

    Advice to Management

Fit the needs for everyone. When you have someone who wants to move up, take the extra time to guide them. Be a part of the team.

I have been working at T-Mobile full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are great, as a FTE, you get 3-4 weeks off per year, and on my team there's a lot of flexibility to work from home. Everyone is supportive of each other and helps to push towards a common goal. Since the company is pretty big, there's a lot of room for growing your career.

    Cons

There can be crazy deadlines and it feels like we're running at a fast pace that we can't possibly keep up forever.

    Advice to Management

Slow down and think everything through fully before executing.
