I worked at T. Rowe Price full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, competitive pay, lots of cushy, fluffy, feel good perks. Great brand , investments and reputation.

    Cons

Poor, (POOR!) management! Passive-aggressive environment where management would rather talk about others about you than provide candid, honest feedback that may actually benefit not only the associate, but the company as well. HR is completely powerless, and will tow the company line regardless of how nonsensical that stance may be relative to a situation. Racist company with diversity primarily at lower levels. Very slow to innovate or embrace needed changes.

    Advice to Management

Don't just say it's an environment open to new or different ideas, make it safe for associates to actually provide them. Step up and call a spade a spade and stop perpetually supporting horrible mid-managers - they are killing the company!

    I worked at T. Rowe Price full-time

    Pros

Great reputation in the Investment Management industry

    Cons

Management plays favorites and promotions are given to those whom they like regardless of the associate's skill set or qualifications for the job. As a result those who work hard and have the relevant experience are passed over, especially if they don't play the "T. Rowe game". Many of the associates have never worked anywhere else so there isn't a lot of relevant "external" experience and they don't like "outsiders" bringing fresh ideas or suggestions.

    Advice to Management

Start recognizing the talent that exists and reward those who are deserving. Stop promoting your friends.

I have been working at T. Rowe Price full-time

    Pros

Benifits, very strong retirement. You put up 4% T Rowe puts up 12.5%. Stock purchase plan. You put up 4% Trow matches 2% all after tax money immediately vested. Vacation, you will have so much time off you may not be able to use it all.

    Cons

Pay is stagnant. You will get a 2.5 percent cost of living raise yearly that is it. If promoted and you make more than the positions low pay range you will get 1% or 2% maybe with an explanation that you make too much already. Can be frustrating when taking on more job responsibilities with not additional pay to reflect.

The only career path that can be somewhat lucrative after time is leadership. If you aren't interested in managing people then you hit a rather low career ceiling.

    Advice to Management

Provide avenues of advancement and opportunities for pay increase or substance bonus potential that are not capped with such a low ceiling. This will provide better retention of top employees through rewarding their contributions and allowing for a more fruitful career path. In turn top employees will feel better about their contribution, career, and provide less financial stress out side of work. Capping earning potential forces top producers to look for more lucrative employment opportunities, or to focus on task that aren't beneficial to the firm but will help provide a spring board for that employee to the next position (example solely focusing on networking, creating problems that don't really exist to solve for interview examples, or spending time performing a different job that isn't within their current role to demonstrate they have expirence performing that job on the next interview). Finally the lack of financial potential will create complacency if the employee doesn't leave the firm, which will result in poor moral and poor quality work due to learned helplessness.

    I worked at T. Rowe Price full-time

    Pros

    Great company and benefits.
    Awesome people to work with.
    Great environment.

    Cons

Admin salaries are much too low.
Most admin's are over qualified for their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Need to redo your titles for Admins. 99% of a Senior Administrative Assistant's role is nothing but doing expense reports. This title should be changed to Staff Assistant and then the low salary fits the title. The title Senior Administrative Assistant should go to someone who works for a department head and salary should start at $60K.

I have been working at T. Rowe Price full-time

    Pros

Benefits are strong for the area. Office campus had great amenities including a two gyms and two cafes.

    Cons

No career growth, increase in turnover due to low morale and lack of career development, & poor management decisions that impact only the staff. Work/life balance is diminishing for staff while management leaves early

    Advice to Management

Invest in your current employees before looking externally and consider the suggestions/opinions of those doing the work before making crucial decisions that impact staff
