I have been working at T. Rowe Price full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are very big on promoting growth, great work life balance, fitness center on site, and excellent benefits package.

    Cons

I personally feel you have to brown noise your boss in order to move forward. They promote growth but I only see individuals that are best friend's with the boss moving forward.

    Advice to Management

A great number of your employee feel that there is a division in the company and a lot of the same offers are not being offered to all employee. You speak of equal opportunity but it is not being activity practiced.

I have been working at T. Rowe Price as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company, good place to work as a full time employee.

    Cons

There is no proper vendor management system. 80% of the contract employees comes through Tek Systems and it takes 50% of the rate for just standing in middle.

TRP feels like they are paying high and they expects high but actually employee gets peanuts.

    Advice to Management

TRP should care about their vendor management and there will be a rule like vendor have to pay at least 75% to the contract employees.

I worked at T. Rowe Price full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great company, awesome benefits, coaching/mentoring.

    Cons

Apprehension/not very diverse as mentioned, not much opportunity if coming in as an Admin Assistant.

    Advice to Management

Work harder with your problem managers; inform administrative assistants of the managers they are going to be paired with. Give an opportunity to move if not a "right fit" for current manager.

I have been working at T. Rowe Price full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong brand, great benefits and training opportunities.

    Cons

Lack of experienced leaders and movement/promotions is very political. If you aren't in the right group or attend the right happy hours, you will not move. Movement and promotions not based on capabilities, rather relationships and networking. Those that are good at networking get promoted while those doing the work and not spending time having coffee with leaders remain in the same position. No value put on leader's ability to develop talent or execute on objectives. Area managers are very territorial and make it hard to move between groups. If you leave one area don't expect to ever go back. These same managers create a culture of fear where their voice is the only voice. Those that don't agree with everything are made to regret it.

    Advice to Management

Reinforce the correct behaviors that you want your leadership team to demonstrate and reward those that are. Cultivate an environment where everyone feels they can be their own person with their own opinion without fear of retaliation. Address unacceptable behaviors of department/site leads and hold them accountable for the way they are leading and treating those they manage. Don't just keep shifting problem managers around or creating "new" roles for them. They need to be managed out as it is well known what they do and for some reason tolerated.

    Pros

Great training, benefits, great mutual funds for clients, stable company.

    Cons

Fraternal politics have more to do with promotion than achievements and interfere with developing a true collaborative culture, institutional inertia makes it slow to change or to gain perspective from experience outside the organization or from upcoming associates, not leader in client technology, middle managers often have not had the job of the people they are managing, micro-management.

I worked at T. Rowe Price full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable, solid company with very strong investment management expertise and experience. Lots of very talented people. Traditionally the culture was a great strength for this company, providing a workplace of trust, promotion from within and career opportunities.

    Cons

Culture in divisions other than the investment division has been eroded by growth and by bringing in a lot of senior level individuals in key positions with values and approaches very different from previous leaders. Opportunities for promotion from within are much more limited, there is less trust between levels of the organization and groups, and many capable people have left in recent years. Organization has become much more bureaucratic and political, and it is hard to get things done.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you understand current issues with morale and put in place efforts to support and retain talent.

    Pros

Good Benefits. Depending on the department, good work/life balance. Great 401K, and employee stock purchase program.

    Cons

Some of the Benefits have deteriorated over time. Some departments have moved toward the outsourcing route with functions (which happens with larger companies), but its not your small asset management firm anymore.
