    Pros

    - A supportive and friendly corporate culture
    - Generous bonus and share monetization policies
    - Open-door communication policy
    - New ideas and opinions are encouraged and listened to
    - Very social office
    - Great little perks – jeans and free bagels on Friday, free soda and juice, office right next to Tysons mall
    - "Work hard, play hard" attitude

    Cons

This is a sales-based company, so if you’re not in sales, you sometimes feel pushed aside. However, the sales teams are what made the company so successful, and the benefits of working for a successful company outweigh those negatives.

    Pros

-nice office environment with free soft drinks
    -free donuts on fridays
-yearly remote kick-off meeting for every employee to attend
-unique data offering which focuses on wireless data

    Cons

-very strange sales compensation based on monthly payments by customers; poor sales compensation
-extreme favoritism of certain employees by management which lead to people being laid-off for no reasons; new employees are treated as "outsiders" and feel they are not part of the old regime which has been there forever and very protective of its turf
-high turn-over due to firings or people leaving on their own; in 2-yr time frame there has been over 50 people who have left or fired
-poor upper management who have been there since inception and do not have experience as senior managers in another company; the worst is the senior sales executives who do not have any sales management experience and are in charge of the sales group
-niche data offering with differentiators being wireless info; larger competitors (such as West Government Services, Lexis-Nexis, Duns & Bradstreet, etc...) offer similar wireless data but include lots of other data such as financial, personal, legal, etc...
-stress something else besides the "uniqueness" due to real-time updates and accuracy which customers do not really believe in and would not pay for with 30% premium over competitors

    Advice to Management

    -respect every employee equally
-bring in competent people who have experience managing at other high-quality companies and listen to their ideas
-have true senior and experienced sales managers to lead the sales group
    -change sales compensation systems

    Pros

TARGUSinfo is a very innovative and entreprenueral organization. They attract and cultivate some very smart and business savvy talent. The company has great benefits, an annual corporate-sponsored week offsite to start the new year, appropriately titled "kick-off," and an annual bonus that has met or exceeded 100% payout. The company is very forward thinking and embraces technology to the fullest.

    Cons

Lack of consistency with internal communications leads to a lot of mixed messages. Corporate training is too product focused. Absolutely zero management training what-so-ever.

    Advice to Management

As leaders for over 200 carbon-based workers there needs to be more honest, direct, and constructive criticism for employees and management. Issues typically do not get resolved and lead to less than ideal "team" set ups.

Allow individuals who voice themselves to be heard, not martyred.

    Pros

Freeedom to pursue what you think is most valuable to the company.

    Cons

Short runway to start producing revenue. If you are not directly tied to "new" revenue, then you are immediately expendable.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in the salaies of product and solution development staff.

    Pros

    -Great Management
    -Excellent rewards
-Keen to get everyone involved in decision making
-The C-Level staff say they have an open door policy, in my experience I have found this to be the truth. They don't just pay lip service to it, they genuinely do care about their staff.

    Cons

-Difficult to understand the product offering at first, however this subsides after training and time.

    Pros

The people are great to work with.
    The pay is good.
The bonus and stocks option are great.
    The annual trip is fun.

    Cons

Sales run the company so the rest are kinda swept to the side. So if you are not in sales there are times you feel left out.

    Pros

Smart people, great compensation system with options that are actually valuable, fantastic products/services, growing and highly stable business, entrepreneurial

    Cons

Low tolerance for poor performers, a sales culture, not a lot of communication between San Diego and Vienna

    Advice to Management

Spend more time at the regional offices, share more information across the company, need more women in executive management

    Pros

Great company culture where most people are very friendly and want to be there. Employees seem to like each other and often do things together socially outside of work. People are generally very smart and good at what they do. Senior management attempts to make it an enjoyable place to work - they provide free sodas and juices everyday, bagles on fridays, and a company wide retreat to a resort each year. There is also a beautiful office space with modern cubicles, furniture, and equipment.

    Cons

Turnover at TargusInfo is off the charts. When I interviewed, I specifically asked about turnover and was told that people tend to leave only for personal reasons such as having a family. Not true at all. TargusInfo lays people off on a rolling monthly basis, seemingly at random.

In an office of roughly 100 employees I saw nearly 50 people come and go over the course of 2 years. Whether it was finance, sales, account management or marketing, no one in any department was safe. Even people who had successful track records for years were unexpectedly let go. The company is either not giving staff proper feedback on their performance (along with an opportunity to improve), or managers are being allowed to let their personal feelings and vendettas come in the way of other people's work. It could be a wonderful place to work if you had more than a 50% chance of making it longer than two years.

    Advice to Management

TargusInfo invests a tremendous amount of time and money in recruiting and training amazing, smart people. I suggest the invest as much time and effort in making it work with the people they have instead of constantly hiring and firing.

    Pros

Management doesn't mind giving you a flexible schedule in order to maintain a work/life balance - as long as you get your work done you are ok here, but if not, watch out.

    Cons

Internal conflict is sometimes mishandled by executives. Also the path for success here is very limited unless you are in sales or engineering. Other departments you come into the company and leave the company in the same position.

    Advice to Management

Offer better paths for success for all employees, not just those in sales. Offer sales teams a better bonus structure based on retaining clients vs. just new business.
