I worked at TASER full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed working for TASER. I started off as a worker on the X26 line and worked my way up in the 10 years I worked at TASER. I always learned something new everyday. The co workers at the time was great to work with. The pay was not bad. Free coffee and soda. Work out equipment and showers. Great products that worked (I have exposed to the TASER products 7 times). All the higher ups were approachable. My name is Josh Durr

    Cons

If you did not go to Harvard you most likely won't go far. I left the company because i had no life outside of work due to traveling schedule (traveling 3 weeks out of the month and some weekends). I asked to be moved to a "desk job". After a month of no talk about my move and seeing people (Harvard golden children) getting moved or Promoted to positions that were not open to anyone to interview for, I put in my two week notice.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees. Open jobs to everyone. Stop bringing people from the outside and look within the company for positions.

    Pros

Easy place to work for, Engineers don't really do much engineering work, they outsource to contractors for the tough stuff and let them go after they get what they want. Mostly fun place to work, cool people, and fun culture, way more relaxed.

    Cons

Some department engineers dont even have the degree. I dont know how they pull that off, meanwhile they are hiring ivy league paper pushers on the other side of the building. Strange duality. A couple managers have a very street-level personality, and they dont seem like managers.

    Advice to Management

Seems there has been a culture of friends hiring friends without the degree, but dont over correct by simply hiring nothing but Harvard paper pushers to make up for it. People should be brought in for their qaualifications, not because they know someone and not because of the school logo.

I worked at TASER full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company makes products that save lives.
CEO Rick Smith is a down to earth, approachable and passionate in what he's doing.
Most people there are nice and easy to work with.
Nice work environment if you work in the front office.
    Company is financially sound.
    Car pool is provided.

    Cons

    Salary-Salary-Salary!!!

Pay is very low for production employees and most employees are temps with very little chance to become permanent. Starting pay for temp is $9.50 per hour and stay at $9.50 forever until becoming permanent.

Low pay also means low quality, low morale and high turnover. TASER has a big challenge retaining skilled workers.

Pay for salary people is not great either and starting salary is lower than industry standard average. It's hard to attract and retain talents if pay is not right.

Mid level management runs the company but it is weak and full of politics.

Working environment for production people is bad, the place is very noisy but no ear protection provided. Smoking area is next to employee entrance and so you practically smoke 10 hours a day even you don't want to.

    Advice to Management

Forget Wall Street and do what is right for the employees.
    Fix your mid level management.

I worked at TASER as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - High morale (excluding manufacturing)
    - Valuable Products
    - Treat interns VERY well

    Cons

    - Messenger is more important than the message.
    - For a company of its age, many processes are only beginning to be formalized.
    - Many problems and unnecessary work from departments not speaking to each other.
    - Not very challenging work.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your workers, including those without fancy titles. They know more than you give them credit for.

I have been working at TASER (Less than a year)

    Pros

TASER has a fun environment and a good culture. The weapons sell themselves and is a known established brand. The company utilizes the creativity of its employees

    Cons

While trying to be innovative, they have launched a product that generally across the board is unsuccessful and unreliable. While AXON and evidence.com are good ideas, they have been executed hastily and what comes off as carelessly. There is also a common theme of intensively rushing things too fast, rather than simply evolving the company rapidly

    Pros

Good mission statement, the company really has a strong place in this world. The people who work there are very amicable, and stick together as a family. The work environment is relatively casual. You are on the cutting edge of emerging technology

    Cons

Compensation is way below market rate.

    Advice to Management

To pay better, you can afford it. And listen to your employees when they want to move.

I have been working at TASER full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

TASER has a fast paced atmosphere that many people thrive on, including myself. You don't get board like at the big box companies. TASER has considerably grown and is constantly trying to get to the next level in innovation and technology while keeping the pace onto greatness. This organization could be great!

    Cons

As with all companies that experience exponential growth, there are pains. Unfortunately due to this relatively young organization and culture, the pains are not handled appropriately or in a timely manner and great people end up leaving. Some members of the management team do not accept the advice of others on how to minimize these growing pains.

    Advice to Management

Benchmark other companies management styles and take value in what is learned. Accept the constructive criticism of those around you that have been in the industry for decades. Do not make uneducated judgments without proper consultation. Lead by example and the organization will follow you anywhere.

I worked at TASER as an intern

    Pros

High achieving company with a mission everyone believes in; leadership works hard to get to know every individual employee and to recruit the best of the best

    Cons

This company is really a "boy's club" - it runs and behaves like a fraternity. To succeed, you need to network in the most 'classic' way possible - drinking and spending time in a testosterone-fueled environment. For a company that brags about its "startup environment", it runs a lot slower and more bureaucratically than expected, and isn't very inclusive to minorities.

    Advice to Management

Bring in people of various cultures and backgrounds - especially since you are working in law enforcement, it's important to make sure that your mission is heard beyond your customers (officers), but also to the other people affected by your products - citizens.
