I worked at TCU part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Flexible hours
    -Nice staff
-Easy job to balance with school work
-They let you listen to music while working

    Cons

    -Very boring and repetitive job
-Workers are so shy that it is difficult to feel at home at first
-When things got slow and there was no work to do they do not let you leave early

    Advice to Management

When there is little or no work to do let the student go home so that they can study. It is a waste of both TCU resources to pay them to sit there when the student would most likely like to be home studying.

    Pros

Great people, atmosphere, and a lot of fun refing games. Schedule is flexible and every year you ref you get a $0.25 raise

    Cons

No one will ever take a shift, usually have to offer $20 or more to someone if an emergency comes up.

    Advice to Management

Y'all are doing great, it's a lot of fun working there!

I worked at TCU full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exciting atmosphere and great people. Professional development is a top priority for this school. The students are great and the funding for programs just keeps appearing.

    Cons

You wait two years for retirement to kick in. They have their favorites and they make it known. You really need to enjoy the heat to work in TX.

    I worked at TCU part-time

    Pros

Technology is up-to-date and reliable and there is fantastic freedom within the classroom to teach however you see fit.

    Cons

The pay is low (for graduate students teaching courses) and the focus is on satisfying undergraduate students and somewhat less on teaching them.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your graduate students.

I have been working at TCU part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everyone is friendly. Someone will always greet you with a smile.
    Family oriented community.
Training is always accessible. There are seminars within departments.

    Cons

If you don't want to be around college students, I would suggest not working at a university. Hours are strict... pretty much 9-5.

I worked at TCU full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Wonderful women, lovely campus, great speakers and events to attend. HR sponsors great programs.

    Cons

Still heavily weighted with men in the upper echelons. Truly the women have to be twice as good to be thought of as half as good.

    Advice to Management

    Take off the gender blinders!

I worked at TCU part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working in Student Affairs during a restructuring and facility enhancements did not take away from the camaraderie and cordiality among my colleagues. Very well-organized but not micro-managed, Student Affairs stood out as a very satisfied division.

    Cons

The students aren't all terrible, but in fact friendly and cordial. However their lack of imagination and creativity was sometimes frightening. Human Resources needs an internal audit as well.

    Advice to Management

Student Affairs understands current trends in higher education, but are some of these trends worth adding to the price of tuition? There also seems to be a large divide among divisions. I sometimes felt like I didn't know anyone else outside of my division!

I worked at TCU as an intern (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working limited hours, ability to focus on school/life balance
Get to meet so many people and great staff within the Student Accounts Department
Hours are M-F, 8ish til 5ish; no weekends!

    Cons

Limited hours, so if you want to make great money (as a student worker), look elsewhere.
People can find you if they know you (asking for favors when you have no power)
No benefits as a student worker.

    Advice to Management

I greatly appreciated the opportunity to work there for 3 years while I was in school; I found it hard to work there after I graduated, but other than that - Wendy Crowley was the best!

    Pros

Very tight nit group that truly love working at TCU. Great benefits and fair pay.

    Cons

A slight lack of professionalism / structure. Hesitancy to change the nature of business.
