      Pros and Cons at TCU

      Pros

Most people who work at TCU want to be there, which makes the work environment friendly and productive for the most part. The University is very focused on its core mission of teaching and learning. The Chancellor is a wonderful leader, too!

      Cons

The rich are getting richer: The top 15-20 earners at the University are making more and more money while compensation has been cut permanently for lower earners.

The cons are beginning to outweigh the pros

      Pros

      * Fantastic benefits. * Mostly pleasant work environment. * Relatively good pay for support staff (compared to other universities and colleges).

      Cons

      * Employees with unconventional shifts (evenings and weekends) are completely overlooked and unappreciated. * Parking lots are inadequate for the huge number of commuters on campus, making getting around campus very difficult (especially if you have mobility issues). * Constant construction that negatively impacts campus parking, the surrounding neighborhood, and the environment in general. * It’s very difficult for support staff to move into other jobs on campus, even when trying to make a lateral move.

      Cons

It's student-run so a little bit unprofessional at times.

      Pros

good school, great working environment, full of supportive students and faculty.

      Cons

Unless you have no health problems, I would not recommend going to TCU as a graduate student. For those chronically ill, it is nearly impossible to live on the stipend. Insurance for graduate students is awful. Additionally, if you want a therapist that does cognitive behavioral therapy who doesn't specialize in "christian therapy" there are only four in-network therapists, three male and one female.

      Mostly Great Benefits

      Pros

TCU has generous time off (standard for higher education industry), incredibly generous tuition benefits as well as retirement after a couple of years. It is a wonderful environment, and in my experience they like to advance their own. Health insurance benefits are reasonably priced. TCU is a fun and incredibly positive work environment - a truly great place to plan to be long-term.

      Cons

There are no paid benefits for maternal/paternal leave - shocking compared to peer institutions in higher education. The pace of change is slow and certain departments are prone to "we have always done it this way" thinking which can be a barrier to some major efforts.
