I have been working at TDS Telecommunications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Great benefit for desk jockeys. Depending on manager, PTO is easy to use. 3 weeks of PTO starting and 80 hours of accrued sick time.
-IT has core business hours so many staff are able to make their own schedule around those hours.
    -Quiet work space
-Work life balance for most people seems to be good
-Parking garage and close proximity to other eating options
    -Takes employee feedback into consideration

    Cons

-Old school mentality and constant political battles
-Small Bonuses if you're not a tenured employee
-Refusal of others to look beyond the "way we have always done it mentality"
-Poor middle management and managers who do not have an interest in developing talent.

TDS is widely regarded in the Madison area as being a stepping stone for good talent. People who aspire for more often go to TDS for a few years of experience and then move on. I can only speak for myself, but while the benefits are nice they certainly do not make up for poor management, messy systems, and countless other internal problems that seem like constant battles. My best advice to any applicant would be to seriously consider working here and have a vested interest in who your manager is. It is important to truly understand that who you work for makes a drastic difference in your experience, TDS is certainly is no exception.

    Advice to Management

Bring on new/young/fresh talent to invigorate old talent and ideals. Teach middle management how to manage young fresh talent. Managing someone 5 years into their career is much different from someone who has been at the same company for 15+. Furthermore, consider how bonuses are paid out to tenured versus new staff, reward those who work hard for your company in addition to those who have been around!

I worked at TDS Telecommunications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Health benefits. Blue Cross Blue Shield

    Cons

Many. I started working 14:00-22:30 Monday thru Friday.
When I started, August 2016, I was told and affirmed that we would be offered better shifts, based on merit, in March of 2017. Due to high turnover, it got pushed back, again and again. I spent over a year working that schedule for 50 cents extra per hour and the tentative promise of not working weekends. Long story short, of the 11 people I started with, only one still works there. Part time.
I now work a better schedule for $4/hr more, plus overtime and monthly bonuses, only a handful of miles away.

    Advice to Management

Just keep the promises made to employees. There always seems to be high turnover so PLEASE set realistic expectations.

I have been working at TDS Telecommunications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have an amazing and supportive managers and work groups who continue to push the envelop and help me develop into a stronger person both in the company and in my personal life.

TDS looks internally for talent first and there are many viable career paths to follow including developmental opportunities and tuition reimbursement. I hired on to a "job" but TDS has made it a career for me.

    Cons

There are some days that need to be longer to get the job done but the sense of accomplishment knowing we are making a difference is worth it.

I worked at TDS Telecommunications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay for external hires. Flexibility in hours and working from home occasionally is an option available to most salaried employees. Health insurance and vesting are pretty good.

    Cons

Wide range in salary for the same job/same level position. Upper management lacks diversity. Leadership doesn't communicate well with management. Different department's goals are often not aligned.

    Advice to Management

Communication! Lack of it leads to rumors and mistrust.

I have been working at TDS Telecommunications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of resources, national company, friendly team and immediate co-workers

    Cons

Lots of company jargon, HR training is not face-to-face, takes a long time to get to know co-workers outside your department, too much competition between departments and there's a need to improve team philosophy.

    Advice to Management

More discussion/speeches/e-mails to staff on importance of working as a team. After six months on the job, it would have been nice to have a 15-minute, face-to-face meeting with HR.

    Pros

    Cons

As with any company of this size, efficiency is key and sometimes when costs need to be cut, it's done with less precision than I would like.

    Advice to Management

    Embrace the future of technology.
