I worked at TECO Energy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good starting wages, encouraged to move up and help when you need it. Still has a defined benefit retirement plan along with 401, profit sharing, bonus plan and share purchase plans. Company goes out of its way to help loyal employes.

    Cons

Mixed union / non union areas, no choice to be in union if assigned to union shop though you do not have to pay dues, you are still constrained by union contract.

    Advice to Management

    Fix union disparity.

I have been working at TECO Energy (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom to grow as a professional through small projects. Allowed for growth in project management as well as training and data analysis

    Cons

Not many cons. Building could use upgrades to improve aesthetics. Lacks a strong family atmosphere. Could be worse but far from perfect.

    Advice to Management

    None

    Pros

Everyone is pleasant and willing to say hi or help. Schedules are flexible. People treat eachother like family. Gym, food, and snacks are great benefits. Pension.

    Cons

Not a hometown company anymore since being sold out to Canada which is very disappointing. I joined TECO to work for my neighbors, and now they work for Canadians who are always on a fire drill. What was once a laid back, slow paced, family environment, is now a stressful, burnt out, scared for your job environment.

    Advice to Management

Stop overworking employees! Not everything is a fire. Also, Emera needs to allow for more resources that are needed in certain areas. Some departments don't have enough work to do while others are working overtime every day and it's burning everyone out. Prepare for higher turnover.
