I have been working at TELUS full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work life balanc: flexible work arrangement (from home), pension matching, employee share purchase plan, 3 weeks of vacation to start, easy to network within the organization, health benefits, $15/mo employees cell phone plan (3GB data), 100% donation matching, TELUS likely to pay for your training/education

    Cons

Certain departments have bureaucratic process and rigid culture, making it difficult to move projects quickly. Compensation way below market rate for internal hires. Experience will vary depending on your manager/director, make sure you can "speak their language" and have similar work styles before you accept the job

    Advice to Management

You should have a plan to bring salaries and benefits for internal hires to mid point as opposed to having preference over external hires

I worked at TELUS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

26 years ago I started. During huge changes to the telecom business Telus provided steady work, training(formal and on the job) variety of positions and interesting work. Great people made it fun and meaningful.

    Cons

You do have to work hard and smart but where don't you?

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    Pros

The company offers matching of RRSP contributions, stock purchase, and comprehensive extended health on top of compensation and benefits. Lots of online training available. Lots of personal development.

    Cons

Ongoing upgrade of skills and credentials required to be retained or you are let go. Work Life Balance is just formality. Management says you don't have to work more 7.5 hours a day but it is a silent expectation especially with the mobile work program.

    Advice to Management

TELUS' greatest asset is Canadian workers. Think of what you can create or build with them instead of what you can save without them.

I worked at TELUS (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a nice company to work and has good opportunities for employees' development.

    Cons

I was overall satisfied with the working conditions while I worked with Telus.

I worked at TELUS as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

As an INTERN you get: matched stock options, free cell phone, great pay, interesting work, paid time off for community volunteering, learning opportunities.

TELUS is a huge company and they make it easy to move around internally. They treat their employees extremely well. If you are motivated you will make it far here.

    Cons

Working for one of the 3 companies that has Canadian consumers in a un-competitive stranglehold of poor choice. Hey, if you can get over this one small fact, this is an amazing place to work. At least they're taking some of the money that they make by overcharging their customers and give it back to their employees.

Only other con is the office politics. Because so many people stay at TELUS for a long period of time, you find a lot of the long time employees have given up on being productive. Avoid the politics and your life here will be happy.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work with how you treat employees and interns especially. Stop trying to make cable TV work. It's dead. Embrace the future of streaming.

I worked at TELUS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They focus on "the how" vs just "the result" which fosters team performance based around aligned values and behaviours to make the work environment positive.

    Cons

Work life balance was a challenge as one could feel they would be on call for last minute requests. This could lead to burnout if not managed correctly.

    Advice to Management

Ensure clear expectations are communicated in terms of after hours availability to avoid burn out.
