Great culture, great benefits and perks...salaries tend to skew lower

      Pros

This is a great place to work where leadership continually demonstrates commitment to the growth of their employees. Where you start with TELUS could be in one functional area, but through the encouragement of their people leaders, you will likely find yourself in another. Don't expect to get rich working here, but you can expect to be satisfied with your work-life balance and the people you work with. They say their salaries are researched and inline with market value, but this was not my experience. If you want a raise, you need to change roles to one with a broader pay band.

      Cons

While they are usually very well communicated and reasoned, layoffs and cut backs are uncomfortably frequent for such a large and prosperous organization. The c-suite is incredibly focused on hitting the numbers promised to the street and will implement layoffs, budget cuts and reorgs to placate investors. These typically amount to drops in the bucket in terms of their impact to their quarterly results, but have massive implications to the morale of their team members.

Don't not work as a contractor here

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Nice people at the low level, gets worse the further up you go.

      Cons

They will not hire you as a real employee. They will keep giving you 1 year contracts - sometimes up to 10 years. So they don't have to provide benefits. It doesn't matter how hard you work, they will not formally acknowledge your accomplishments if you are a contractor. They will work you to death and then ask your name. Do not expect a good work/life balance - it's always a crisis. Projects seem to be run by no one. Management just wants it done as soon as possible regardless of the quality. Not worth your time. It will never get you anywhere.

      Great company!

      Pros

      - Great team culture (dependent on team) - Work-life balance/flexibility (you are pretty autonomous) - Always something going on in your portfolio ; never a dull day

      Cons

      - As with most large orgs, a lot of bureaucracy/forums/approval processes - Senior leadership is a bit out of touch; dribbles down to more 'on the ground'/'end user' teams; a lot of last minute urgent things

      First class employer

Oct 20, 2020 - Call Center Representative in Calgary, AB
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

There are many benefits to working for TELUS from the fabulous benefits program, the comprehensive coaching and training that you receive as an employee, fair process decision making and its strong community focus.

      Cons

As a call centre agent you can be assigned in a rotating schedule with shifts beginning as early as 7AM and ending as late as 11PM. You are also not always guaranteed specific work days so your work week can change from week to week. The company has worked hard to improve schedule trading and scheduling to improve the work life balance of its employees. However, if you need a set schedule this job may not be for you.
