I worked at TIBCO Software full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Unlimited PTO, flexible work schedule

    Cons

No direction given. Sought out guidance only to have emails ignored by senior level managers/employees. Changed pay structure shortly after I signed my contract to start

    Advice to Management

Need to give more guidance to new employees and hire managers that actually care about their employees.

I have been working at TIBCO Software (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There is still a great group of people working for this company, people who give their best every day to recover the greatness we once had in the marketplace. We are losing these people little by little, during a Sales Training last year, the instructor referred to them as "Heroes"

    Cons

Since the acquisition last year the benefits of working for this company have degraded dramatically, especially in Silicon Valley: No stock, average salaries and flat growth; it is very hard to get a modest salary increase, and it hurts to see how many people who left the company are being re-hired with higher salaries and/or positions. Makes you wonder if you should do the same.

    Advice to Management

Value the people who are still here, rather than prizing those who left. Stop doing dream merchandising and focus on selling real solutions. Don't tell us one day our API management solution is the best in the market and then turn around the next day and acquire another company to replace it.

    Pros

Very few. A great company lost its way. If you want to dirty your resume up, then you've come to the right place.

    Cons

Acquiring companies and then not integrating into the full stack is a poor plan. The acquired eventually goes stale without the necessary engineering resources.

    Advice to Management

Vista, letting management survive the takeover was a REALLY bad decision. You think a few Vista papers are going to fix this mess? Good job getting 100M discount up front. Chop it up and get what else you can before the stale technology is completely irrelevant.

    Pros

Great mix of products. They have a dedicated, talented pool of people to work with. With the product set they've acquired, they can eventually solve almost any problem.

    Cons

With so many products, it's hard to find the 'right' way to solve a problem. The company has morphed into a hard line numbers driven company where all that matters is EPS. There once was a time where you didn't have to fool yourself into thinking that the company cared about you or your career, that time was over a long time ago.

    Advice to Management

Recognition, mentoring, promote from within. Embrace the decentralization, and trust employees that don't work at the mother ship.

I have been working at TIBCO Software full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working at TIBCO Software full-time for more than 13 years. Joined as contractor in 2000 and got hired by TIBCO as employee in 2007; treated me like an employee even when I was contractor. Work culture is good, competitive and collaborative environment; huge product(s) foot print and plenty of opportunities to learn the latest and greatest event based real-time technologies. Good reputation and worldwide presence. Highly technical people, remarkable concentration of genius, R&D and is also one of key focus areas apart from having FUN!

    Cons

Sometime it may appear that climbing up the ladder is politically difficult.

    Advice to Management

    Keep the good work!

I have been working at TIBCO Software full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My boss is awesome. He's super encouraging, and he really knows his stuff when it comes to our software. He lets me screw up, and gives me 'unvarnished feedback' in such a way that it feel constructive. Overall, the company has a ton of potential and, I feel, the right people leading things.

    Cons

The product that I work on, Spotfire, is better at 'the hard stuff' than our competitors, but our competitors are 'prettier'. That doesn't sound like a huge problem until you realize that 'pretty' matters quite a bit in the data visualization space.

Also, TIBCO has something like 400 products overall. Sometimes, it's hard to really know what resources are really available.

    Advice to Management

Often times, it's very easy to prioritize what to focus on when you're a company like ours; where the history has been B2B selling. But with software like Spotfire, we need to remember that the people who we need to convince are real people too, and things like ease of use and prettiness will often trump advanced statistical analysis.
